kmweaver (2125), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Sep 30, 2008 750mL bottle, courtesy of acrdz. Thanks, Mike! Pours a hazy, honey-golden color; huge, textured off-white head with great retention and foamy lacing; some small particulates. Slightly skunky aroma; lots of mineral bitterness, floral notes, and white pepper in the nose; minerals, pepper, nicely dry. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of dry, toasty notes upfront, white pepper, and dry complex yeastiness; seems light-struck overall, but the solid, dry saison character underneath is still quite apparent; toasty, bready, peppery saison with complex floral notes; quite nice; would like to try this under better circumstances (less skunked). Medium finish: dry pepper, toasty malts, and dry bready yeastiness; skunkiness lingers. acrdz (4379), Boulder, Colorado, USA Sep 30, 2008 Huge overflowing white head (large bubbles) on top of a hazy golden body. Nose is somewhat corn-laden, I think this one could be light struck, it does come in a green bottle... it’s got a bit of a greenness, some celery flavored hops, some cattiness, a little bit of funk, but light-struck to a sharpness. A faint bit of sweet cheese shows up late, some skunkiness... weird, I don’t think this is in the best condition, but it’s still enjoyable. Boutip (1815), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Sep 23, 2008 Bottle: Poured a dirty beige color ale with a huge pure white foamy head with perfect retention and great lacing. Aroma of funky notes with some dry and bitter English style hops. Taste is also a weird mix between some funky farmhouse style ester with some dry notes coming from the English style hops with a nice Belgian style malt backbone. Full body with limited filtration and great carbonation. Very different but interesting experiment in the end. theisti (1091), Leawood, Kansas, USA Sep 23, 2008 750 ml bottle courtesy of PhillyBeer2112, shared with my wife at SPIN! Pizzeria in Overland Park, Kansas ($1 corkage on weekdays!). Pour is hazy-cloudy copper beige with a massive fluffy 4 inch off-white head. Really nice looking. Aroma is of earth, spice, and yeast. Taste has a nice mineral earthiness; wet dirt, light pepper spice, and great fresh hop bitterness. This worked really nicely with Pizza. The spicy hoppiness works with this beer throughout, from initial taste, long into the dry finish. Along with the hop bitterness, there is a great wet earth lingering aftertaste. Palate is quite carbonated, was refreshing and cleansing. I am a sucker for this type of beer. Thanks for sending my way, Dan! hapjydeuce (581), Carlsbad, California, USA Sep 18, 2008 Bottle shared with Katie at Toronado in San Diego. I really liked this small Saison, sampled alongside a few others that evening. Awesome look to this beer. Sparkling white-yellow with a huge developing head. Pleasing light and bitter flavor with ginger spice and lemon rind. Finishes bone dry with tickling carbonation and a pronounced bitterness.
