JFURYCAT (705), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 26, 2008 Bottle from Josh from NEPA case split. I had trouble containing the gushing explosion when I popped the cap but enjoyed the blonde ale with farmhouse qualities of grassy lemon sandal wood, spices, sweet honey, and the bitterness which reminds me of Belgian beers (Piraat?). The malts are very nice. The major drawback is how watered down it is even though I realize thats purposeful to make it a warm weather type beer. This is detected more in the aroma than flavor.

Meh, not bad. CapedBrewsader (179), Brasschaat, Belgium Jun 16, 2008 Draft at Thiriez: Cloudy light amber with tall barely off-white head. Aroma has someshat chemically yeast note. Phenols. Lightly cidery appleskin tartness. Some clove and banana. The later blows off and lets in a "green" noble hop. Flavor of a blended citrus and banana layer floating on top of noble smooth hops. Dry deep hop at the end with a touch of alcohol. yespr (5611), Copenhagen O, Denmark Jun 12, 2008 75 cL bottle. Pours semi-explosive with a hazy orange colour, small yeast floating elements and a slowly collapsing white head. Orange fruit and yeasty aroma. Flavour is light malty with a solid orange fruity flavour. Light yeasty note in addition to this. Ends the same way to a citric lingering flaour. Nice and thirst quencing. schuimkroaat (381), Leuven, Belgium Jun 7, 2008 33 cl bottle, 6.5 vol.%alc, ’bbe’ June 09. Brassy colour, cloudy, small white head. Aroma of dry, crusty, spiced cakes mixed with quite heavy, herbal hops. Smooth, malty taste sharpened up with a solid dosis of hops. Gentle citrus. Rather long bitterish aftertaste. Chalky palate. Thiriez Blonde is a dry-hopped saison that pours a deep golden with fine particles that cause just a touch of haze. Blonde is darker then it’s little brother Xxtra. Lively carbonation explodes to the surface and keeps the head alive and pillowy. The clean white head leaves spotty lacing on it’s way down. A good, refreshing looking brew.
Pale maltiness kicks things off in the nose along with a candi sugar like sweetnees, although I’m pretty sure none is added. Plenty of grassy hay like hoppiness from both the hop additions and the dry hopping, mostly from the latter. I would love to get a bottle of this fresh from the brewery to see how all that hoppiness jumps out. There’s a nice touch of both sweet and tart lemon in here that sort of weaves it’s way through all the other aromas and creates a wonderful freshness.
Pale malt meets the tongue just as it did the aroma, not much flavor there but a slight sweetness before orange and lemon drops come in mid-palate. The candy is combined with a grassy noble-like hop bitterness that just keeps growing throughout. A bit of tart lemon comes through on the finish creating a very nice drink. This is one of those great Summer beers.
This beer has a really good body. Light with a healthy carbonation that keeps things moving along while massaging the tongue. Finishes slightly dry.
A highly drinkable libation. Great thirst quencher and supremely enjoyable. The dryness keeps me coming back again and again until I realize I’m drinking far too fast.
Another grat beer from Brasserie Thiriez. This and the Xxtra are two beers I can not get enough of. Both are wonderful and the dry hopping adds another level to one of my already favorite styles.
