Swaroga (1323) - Brussels, BELGIUM - FEB 17, 2013
33cl bottle. Dark brown with medium, lightly tanned head. Nose : cheese, yeast, smoke, black chocolate. Nuts. Sip : medium thick and creamy, low carbonation. Moderately sweet start collapses under delicate smoky flavour of black chocolate, clove and cooked fruits that develops a gentile dry ending. It’s a nice porter if one enjoys smoked, torrified malts and dry finish. OK.

Bottle BBE 02/11. The beer tries to get out as soon as you crack it open. Pours an auburn-tinged, very dark brown, almost black with a large and thick, latteish head. Aroma begins sour with berries, red currant, rowan berries, slight vinegar, some tones of sweet maltiness. Later evens out into sweet maltiness with some roastedness and herbal hops in there. Taste is roasted malts, coffee, notes of sour berries. Aftertaste is malty, slighty herbal and woody, some cardboard can be detected at times. Palate is somewhat carbonated, medium and a little thin.

Heavy hoppy aroma. Huge, frothy, off-white head. Mostly lasting longevity. Clear, amber body. Moderate bitter flavor. Medium palate.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2012 33cl bottle from Cellier des Arcades, Arras. Pours an opaque dark brown, small tan head. Aroma: roasted malts, maple syrup, chocolate, smoke, quite nice. Flavour: prickly feel, smokey, chocolate malt, slightly nutty, again quite good. Rare to find porters or stouts made in France, but I have yet to come across a bad one. They get a lot of foreign imports of this style so I wonder if it’s something local brewers just don’t bother with much.

Bottle, BB 2/2011. Very deep, reddish-brown color, wispy tan head. Vaguely sour aroma with hints of coffee. Slightly sour flavor with roasted malts, tart finish. Medium body, medium-high carbonation. Either this has not aged well or it wasn't particularly good to begin with.

Archibaldo de la Cruz (1122) - FINLAND - MAR 17, 2010
Bottle. Dark brown colour with a lasting medium-sized tan head. Malt, vinegar and spices in the nose. The flavour is slightly sweet and sour with notes of malt, juniper berries and some spices. Light to medium-bodied and quite carbonated.
