Bottle. Pours a clear and dark reddish/brown beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is malt, sweetness, fruit, notes of dried fruit and star anis. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is sweetness. Overall a good beer.

Bottle, Black with a medium head. Malty with a medium body which reminded me of a cross between a stout and a brown ale. Different and worth trying.

33cl bottle. Dark brown with medium, lightly tanned head. Nose : cheese, yeast, smoke, black chocolate. Nuts. Sip : medium thick and creamy, low carbonation. Moderately sweet start collapses under delicate smoky flavour of black chocolate, clove and cooked fruits that develops a gentile dry ending. It’s a nice porter if one enjoys smoked, torrified malts and dry finish. OK.

33 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 15.03.2010
Aroma has earthy notes, some herbs and slightly sour. Flavour is quite odd with herbs, spices, some licorice and some fruity notes. Weird and messy, why did Alko take this?

Nice looking dark, mostly clear body with tan lace. Roasted malts, sticky dark fruit and forest hops. Easily drinkable body, somewhat oily texture. Decent brew, but straightforward. (33cl bottle from De Bierwinkel Leiden)

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2012 33cl bottle from Cellier des Arcades, Arras. Pours an opaque dark brown, small tan head. Aroma: roasted malts, maple syrup, chocolate, smoke, quite nice. Flavour: prickly feel, smokey, chocolate malt, slightly nutty, again quite good. Rare to find porters or stouts made in France, but I have yet to come across a bad one. They get a lot of foreign imports of this style so I wonder if it’s something local brewers just don’t bother with much.

330mL. Pours a deep brown, clear, to near black. More of a cola SRM. Larger brown larger bubbled head about 4 fingers high in the snifter tulip. No lace. Probably this glass specific glass refuses to take any lacing. Nose is mild red wine barrel. Taste is tangy and mildly dirty with some open fermentation oddities. Some earthen soil character. Palate is thin and tangy. Mild cinnamon character. Interesting. Odd tanginess with some cloven Christmas character but also iron rich soil unfortunately.
