Bottle. Pours a clear and dark reddish/brown beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is malt, sweetness, fruit, notes of dried fruit and star anis. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is sweetness. Overall a good beer.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours black with a short-lived tan head. Aromas of boot polish, liquorice, tar, shellacs at 78rpm. Noisy carbonation. Taste is light sweet, more tar and memories. Watching Grandstand on a Saturday afternoon with a minute-steak sandwich. WWF in the last 1980s. Sweet, but thin finish.

330ml bottle @ Estaminet t’Kasteelhof. Refreshing dark beer with a good initial roasted malt taste, deep liquorice and a smooth bitterness. Very nice.

UPDATED: AUG 12, 2014 Bottle at Brasserie Thiriez.
In my opinion this sits closer to Belgian Stout than a sort of Porter: Phenolic, roast-heavy, licorice / spice-accented. Slightly lactic in the way of milk stout. Medium body, off-dry, slightly herbal (roasted fennel) amid the core of burnt and astringent blackened grains.

Aroma has plenty of roasted malts and also something herbal. Nettles, liquorice perhaps. Smooth and rich mouthfeel. Flavour has a solid bittersweet maltiness and some treacle.

Black in the glass. Simple roasted malty and slightly hoppy, nothing interesting going on here. Next...

Tap at Les Trois 8. Coffee-colored with foamy tan head. Aroma is espresso, grassy/spicy hops, bitter chocolate, esters, stone fruit. Taste is round and full with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, prunes, dried cherry, hops, and lingering bitterness. Sort of a farmhouse porter. Nice.

Bottle from the bierkoning. Black pour with bubbly brown head that recedes almost instantly. Looks all the world like Coke, even sizzles like coke. Aroma is roasty, light grassy hoppy notes, some licorice. Taste is disgusting, light root beer flavor, watery as hell, sweet like pop. Super thin palate, watery with prickly soda carbonation. Yuck, I hope this is an infection of some kind.
