Appearance: dark amber with a tint of old copper. Tanned creamy , thick top.4-. Nose Sour aroma , zesty fresh character, soft sweeter base. Flavor/Palate : Strong sourness up front that somewhat was soften by fruity-malty backing. Sour cherry is neat, re setting and refreshing palate. Unusuall and great!
Boutip (2335), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jun 2, 2008 Bottle: Poured a clear light reddish color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma of lightly sour notes with some oak notes. Taste is also a light mix between some oak and some sourness with some light vinous notes. Body is average for the style with some good carbonation. This beer really reminded me of the Classic Rodenbach and would be perfect for a hot summer day. Bouteille brune, 33 cl, meilleure avant 04/09, via Importations Privées Bièropholie, savourée le 21 mai 2008; œil : auburn, moyennement voilée, effervescence moyenne, mousse crémeuse vanille qui tombe mais laisse une bonne couverture sur la bière; nez : acidulé, malt; bouche : acidulé, finale acidulé; en résumé : probablement infectée kepano (239), Meudon, France May 17, 2008 Topped of a thick rosy head, La Rouge Flamande has the color of a ripe strawberry. The slight haze imparts a bucolic air to this surprisingly seductive-looking ale. The aroma starts light and springy, showing hops and woodland berries – particularly raspberries and wild strawberries. The dusty cobwebs and subtle sourness imply a rustic heritage though this nose remains decidedly fresh and vivacious. Hints of bubble gum, vanilla and grains add to the ebullient smell. Transitioning to the palate, this beer retains more of its richness than anticipated. The strong malty backbone is founded on buttered toast slathered with honey. Caramel adds to the balance. Raspberry and blackberry show up again among the light fruit and hop flavor. This is an ale crafted for drinkability. I found the flavors somewhat muted even after the late apparition of coffee bean, but there’s something to be said about a refreshing joyful brew like this one. minch25 (346), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 29, 2008 Tart fruity nutty note in the aroma. Big frothy head that eventually settles. Toasty, nuts, light sweetness as of dried fruits. downender (2538), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Apr 6, 2008 Bottle from Utobeer. Opaque amber with a very lively, off-white head. Sweet aroma of caramel and yeast. Sugary flavour with some apricots, vague spicing and some hops in the finish. OK. fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Feb 18, 2008 Hazy amber color with a nice perlage. Nice honey aroma, yet delicate. Medium body structure, simple flavor with light caramel and honey; with a very light sourness, that let’s me suspect a starting infection.
