thebeertourist (2753), Oslo, Norway Oct 29, 2005 Floral hop and caramel aroma. Hazy dark-copper-coloured. medium off-white head. Flavour is more complex, earthy, spicy on a malty background. Cellar-like flavours reminds me that we are in biere de garde territory (should it maybe be categorised as such?). Medium carbonation. Very interesting. lachesis (759), St Idesbald, Belgium Sep 12, 2005 Nice reddish amber color with a small slight colored head. The smell is soft and has aroma’s of bisquits, malts, soft spices and tropical wood. The taste is smooth, dryish slight sweet, has hints of céreal cookies, malts, pepper, nutmeg, cigare case and some hops. This beer has good drinkabelity and the afthertaste is elegant. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 2, 2005 (Bottle 75 cl) "The red cow-beer" the Danish importer calls this - with a developed sense for poetry... Well, the label may not aspire to much sophistication surrounding this beer.
But not only the label is red here. The beer has a distinct, reddish brown colour. Hazy with lots of impurities. Very fizzy when poured but leaves no head. Soft, sweetish, fruity and very unusual flavours of.... strawberry! 270103 presario (2955), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jul 14, 2005 Big foamy long lasting head. Orange coloured. Tiny particles floating. Aroma is dusty with alcohol, orange and spice. Flavour is dusty and spicy as well. A flavourful beer. Each sip has a new collection of spice and flavours. TimE (1300), Tokyo, Japan Jul 13, 2005 Big, big thick head with a browish tinge. Fresh cranberries soaking in mineral water erupt from the nose. Cranberries, spice, slightly sour, malty mouth. The finish is somewhat watery with cranberries and a hint of sweaty socks.
Neat stuff. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Nov 2, 2004 Sweet, phenolic aroma with touches of alcohol. Opaque burnt honey coloured with off-white head that recedes to cover. Oddly flat, mild citrus-lemon flavour with an aftertaste like stale cigarette smoke. Medium body but oily texture and almost no carbonation. Bottle sampled with MartinT, muzzlehatch and Rastacouere. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Nov 2, 2004 Biere de Garde and Various Oddments tasting, #7, with MartinT, Rastacouere and tiggmtl. (Thankfully) small bottle. Dark cloudy copper, caramel-sweet aroma, a bit of phenolic medicine and alcoholic fruits...pepper, yeast and cigarettes are the distinguishing features in a sharp yet bland body. Extremely mediocre. MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 1, 2004 Frail, phenolic fruitiness buried under a load of earthy yeast...Watery citrus zest emerges from this sudden smothering, but is obviously weakened...Rehabilitation is necessary and there is much internal work to be done...
