Bottled. Pours a dark garnet. Dry, medium body, low bitterness, quite acidic. Sour, vinous taste, very fruity, wood, faint smoke, blackcurrants, spices. (2011-10-15)

Bottle 75cl #1164 vintage 2010. A dark amber beer with huge head and good lacing. Nose is slightly sour with brown malt notes, near an oude bruin. Aroma is caramel like, sweet, notes of licorice and ginger, nut, some sourness mixed with acidity and anise on the finish. Sourness is low comparative to Belgian ones, malty side is medium, easily drinkable but less complex than expected.

Bottle @ SBWF2011. Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity sour woody caramel aroma. Fruity sour acidic woody caramel flavor with hints of dark fruit. Has a fruity sour tart woody caramel finish.

Bottled@SBWF2011. Very deep amber/copper colour with a mediumsized beige head. Aroma is sour wood, some mild fruity and berryish notes along with mild toasted notes. Flavour is very similar in a mouthdrying way. Long dry aftertaste.

Sample @ SBWF. The sourness has got sweet berry qualities that makes it quite pleasant and refreshing. Funky, but not too funky. Some wood and redwine in the aftertaste.

Holziger Antrunk in dem die Lagerung schmeckbar ist. Säuerlich, sehr trocken. Im Mittelteil ist das Bier ebenfalls trocken, wird aber eher vom Malz beeinflusst. Durchgehend hopfig, zum Ende etwas fruchtig. Test vom 12.8.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: -,10,10,11,-,11 - 10,64

Bottle 099, 2010 vintage at Het Oude Schooltje, thanks to Carlo. It pours very dark red-brown, with a thick beige head. The nose is full of dark fruit, cherry, sea salt, milk chocolate and some citrus. The taste is initially sour dark fruit (cherry, plum, date, sultana, raisin and red grape), which smoothes out to more savoury flavours of charcoal, sesame seed, soy and wood. Enjoyable and easily the best French beer I have tried to date.

Bottle from Cave à Bulles. Dark brown with a nice tan head. Delicious vanilla oak and sour fruit aroma. Very nice balance between vanilla and sour fruit, ending on a woody, dry note. Very accomplished.

Bottled. A hazy red-brown beer with a thick brown head. The aroma has notes of malt, chocolate, and acidic fruits - reminding me of a Flemmish red. The flavor is lightly acidic with notes of fruit - the acidity leaving a light burn in the throat.

The color is almost black; medium creamy head. There is an interesting mix of roasted malt and vinegar aroma. Caramel and roasted malts flavor, with a strange lactic sourness, some acetone; almost a sour Stout (I don’t think that roasted malt and sourness marry well). It’s good that in France somebody starts brewing such beers, but it’s still far away from the best Oud Bruin.
