On tap at the Thirsty Bear. Pours a pure black color with a huge brown head, looks nice. A nose of sweet and dry coffee, roasted malts. The flavor is heavy toasted malts, coffee, milky chocolates. Sweet and very drinkable. Nice.

Draught @ Thirsty Bear Brewing, San Francisco. Rated on 19.07.2012
Aroma is roasted with coffee and licorice, Flavour has coffee, slightly salty licorice, hints of peat and ash. A bit watery but good. Best of their draught stuff at that time.

On tap at the brewpub in downtown San Francisco. Tar black pour with a generous and long lasting creamy off white head and thick lacing. Aroma is pleasant, pick up some fresh lake water notes with a hint of chocolate. Very good roastiness in the flavor, with some bittersweet chocolate and coffee making prominent appearances. High lacticity makes for a very creamy and delectable mouthfeel. Very good brewpub stout.

Black color, creamy tan head. Chocolate and coffee aroma. A bid bodied stout. Chocolate malts predominate the taste. Bold flavor with a dry finish. Well balanced. Nice stout. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is smooth and dry. Aftertaste us malty and slightly bitter.

On tap at the brewpub. Black with a nice, creamy, light brown head. Chocolate and roast, the latter more pronounced in the mouth. Good balance. Nice one.

Deep brown coloured body (80% opaque) with a frothy white head, and yes, you could tell from the minute it hit the counter that it has been nitrogenated. Aroma of roasted products - malt and nuts the strongest essence. Light, Smooth bodied; Tastes of coffee and chocolate dominate the early tastes and stay long on the palate. Aftertaste shows more malt and a bit of the nuts from the smell. Overall, a good dry stout that shows well at a brewpub. I sampled this beer on draught at the brewpub on 28-February-2007.

Tap at the brewpub. The look is dark, black in color, with a tan head. The smell is roast, smoke, malts, roast, barley, and good. The taste is celery, roast, bitterness, coffee, and off.

Sampled at Thirsty Bear. Rich roasted-toasted grain aroma, with chocolate and regrettably some soy sauce. Light neutral hop character, mild smoke and coffee. Dark black-brown clear with thin rocky tan head. Medium body, mildly oily, with some mild-medium carbonation. Starts with bitter roasted grain, almost burnt, with light coffee grounds bitterness, a touch of smoky quality, and light bitter hops. Smooth nutty bitter after, light molasses. Salty, too, at the finish - seems to be a theme here ... maybe softened water? Nutty coffee after with a bit of tang.
