3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the Thirsty Bear. Pours a dark copper with a small white head. The aroma is sweet fruity, a Belgian double-like nose. The flavor is rich caramel, a crisp house flavor of earthy grains, vanilla, almost no discernible wood. Is this a amber ale? Pretty nice.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Sampled at Thirsty Bear. Odd aroma - woody but in an old-barnwood type of way, rather than a mellow oaky way. Mild lactic notes, few hops. Coppery amber clear with thin white head. Medium watery body with medium carbonation. Starts with medium sweetness and a winey tannic acidity, light oaky tones - woody. Finishes with some acetic tang and mild fruity after. Interesting, but not as good as the Golden Stave. There are hints of a Flanders sour ale here, but not quite.
