Dark brown/black color with small light brown head and thin oily lacing. Aroma is rich and roasty with vanilla, bourbon, and oak. Flavor has strong caramel malts, toastyness, and intense bourbon. Nice spicy yeasts. Finishes slightly bitter and boozy, with a thick lingering bourbon flavor. Very good.
First tried this last October but didnít rate it- got a growler at Heinenís in University Heights during Cleveland Beer Week. Now Heinenís in Hudson has it on tap so I got another growler and tastes as good as I remember!

Thanks to my good Ohio friend for this one. Pour a stout brown with a thin off-white head. Nose is some roast, some chocolate, big apple, Belgian yeast, some booze, light wood, and some fruity esters. Flavor starts with apple, yeast, and wood, followed by some chocolate and roast, finished with Belgian yeast. Medium in body and an interesting amalgamation of flavors.

On tap at Heinens Mayfield Heights in high quality plastic "glass". Dark brown with lasting tan head and lace. Chocolate vanilla with herbal spice and mild woody bourbon alcohol aroma. Very sweet chocolate truffle with vanilla dark fruit and bitter chocolate herbal cloying mildly hot finish. Cloying and slick and thick and mouth coating, but soft at least. May this be the first and last "Black Tripel" I drink. Perhaps an Imperial Abbey Porter would taste better. Anyhow, not horrible, but not repeatable.

Sample at McNultyís Bier Markt for the CBW Collaboration Kickoff on 10/18/2013. Dark brownish-amber color with a medium thick foamy light beige head that dissipates slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit and oak. Full-bodied with flavors of subtle bourbon, dark fruits and earthy yeast. The finish is somewhat boozy with a fruity yeast aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
