4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma: Lots of spices--ginger, cinnamon, etc.--with hints of honey and caramel.
Appearance: Clear dark amber with a thick, tan head.
Taste: Light sweetness with a light bitterness in the finish. Very well balanced.
Palate: Light-medium body, slick texture, average carbonation, sweet finish.
Overall: Iím not blown away, but Iím not disappointed. Itís not as heavy or overspiced as a lot of other holiday beers, so thatís good, but it also seems a little underdeveloped, flavorwise.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Amber body with an off-white head. Aroma of nutmeg, all-spice, cinnamon, toasted grain, alcohol. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Overly spiced, overly sweet and overly boozy.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Backlog rating 12-13-2008 (Bottle) This beer pours a small tan head that mostly diminished, transparent body, very little carbonation observed, one ring of lacing, and a reddish brown hue. The aroma is made up of caramel, malt, spicy, cinnamon, and ginger. The flavor is caramel, malt, spicy, and sweet. The palate is tingly and this is a medium bodied beer. ABV is well hidden for 8.3%, but overall I did not care for the taste of this beer as the various flavors just did not come together very well for me.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Smells like ginger. Watery consistency. Low carbonation. Good lacing with amber colour, but not much here. This certainly isnít the partridge on the pear tree. Tap at Hopcat.

2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
christmas beers just seem to lose its flavor when the spices take over the taste of the brew. That is what is goiing on here, the spice/pine honey, nutmeg et el. kill the taste of the brew.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, Winter 2012 bottling. Pours lightly hazy red-orange amber color with a nice 1-2 finger dense off white head with nice retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big honey, caramel, ginger, raisin, nutmeg, cinnamon, toast, light clove, and light herbal. Damn nice aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of caramel, toast, ginger, honey, raisin, apple, cinnamon, nuttiness, and light herbal. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, honey, ginger, cinnamon, raisin, apple, and nuttiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and robustness of malt/spice flavors; with zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with almost zero warming present on the finish. Overall this is an excellent winter warmer. Nicely balanced and robust flavors with good complexity; and extremely smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering as expected; this is definitely the better offering vs the GL version.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Average to above average spiced winter ale. A sliver below SanTan's Rail Slide. Has a nice base malty flavor but has two shortcomings: the spice is just over the top and detracts more than adds, and it's quite thin -- which is odd since the ABV is over 8%.

Snifter sized draft at Over the Bars bar in Pittsburgh. A disappointing weak body with a slight lack of flavor. For a seasonal I expected a little more uniqueness.
