2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Nice color, orangish-amber, medium head, thick & lasting. Very floral, fragrant aroma. Starts a solid bitter taste, a bit watery, then a thick, dryness lingers. Grassy.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a clear medium brown with a dark ruby hue. Nice head and lacing that lasts well. Brilliant nose of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg spice, over a light dark malt sweetness. Creamy medium body with good carbonation. The taste is like the nose - spice against a dark malt sweetness base. An exceptionally well balanced brew that covers the 8.3% alcohol very well. Finishes crisp and clean with a nice spice flourish and just a touch of alcohol bite. An outstanding winter offering.

’Tis the season to try these blasted holiday ales! I respect Thirsty Dog and they managed to put together a nice offering here--albeit typical and unexceptional. It’s packed full of mostly agreeable flavors, but not much distinction from your typical holiday fare.

12 oz bottle. Deep brown-garnet pour with a half-finger, creamy off-white head. The aroma bottled Christmas: Nutmeg, cinnamon, caramel, honey, but not overly thick or sweet. Flavor has more cinnamon and nutmeg, toffee. Medium body, somewhat frothy granular carbonation; medium-heavy sticky. Beat the pants off Great Lakes Christmas and also more appropriate for the holidays.

Draft at Chalkboard cafe. Dark copper color. Cinnimon, nutmeg, notes. Light sweetness. Ave carbonation. Some caramel notes with good spices. Not too spicy just right.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
From a bottle. Pours reddish brown with a foamy 4-inch head that dissipates rather quickly, but has good lacing. Aromas of cinamon, raisin, ginger, pumpkin spice, caramel malt. Creamy mouthfeel with flavors of brown sugar, caramel, cinnamon, vanilla and ginger. Candy-like finish of spiced milk chocolate and a whisper of honey with a slight hop bite. This is better than many Christmas ales out there. Nicely done.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from bottle into pint glass. This is by far one of my favorites. Pours a deep brown/amber color with a decent head that dissipates into a thin lacing. Aroma is a nice spice. Cinnamon and ginger come through with a nice finish. Like Drinking a Christmas Cookie!

The honey stands out, but not too much. Very inoffensive for its high percentage. This beer feels more like Christmas than most.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from a friend who brought this over for a party. Interesting holiday brew, very sweet and spicy, which I normally do not like. This beer is heavy on nutmeg and cinnamon. Honey. Alcohol north of 8% is very well hidden. Meh. Holiday beers are not normally my thing anyway.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nutmeg and cinnamon at the forefront without being overpowering. Honey, holiday spice and nutty flavors on the palette. Rich yet still light going down. Not a beer for fans of hoppiness. Far better than Great Lakes Xmas. Original Brewmaster from Great Lakes is still getting it right at Thirsty Dog. Delicious and much better than 2012 which was just a bit too much on the Nutmeg which is backed off to perfection in 2013.
