awesome barrel aged stout. whiskey barrel is very upfront in the taste, but also very complimentary. some might say it overpowers, but if that is your concern grab a bottle of the regular stuff.

Dark beer with a foamy brown head that left an attractive lace. Rich sweet malty nose with lots of bourbon notes. This is a hot, boozy beer with lots of oak, bourbon, vanilla bean, chocolate milk and a rich cherry fruitiness. Smooth mouthfeel with a long barrel finish. This is a great use of a barrel in a beer.

From tap. Pours a deep thick brown in color with a nice tan head. Lacing was nice. Aroma was roasted malt, bourbon, dark fruit and vanilla. Taste follows with a full mouth feel and a sweetness. Lightly carbed.

64 ounce growler filled earlier today from the new growler station at Blacklick Wine and Spirits. Served in a snifter, the brew pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head that sticked around for a little bit. There’s also a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, it smells like bourbon, vanilla, roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and oak/wood. The taste is similar to the aroma, but there’s also the addition of some burnt/charred malt, dark fruit and a bit of anise. Great balance between the sweet, bitter, roasty and bourbony flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it’s a bit slick and coating with a decent amount of carbonation. I like this brew a lot, I’m glad I got a growler of it. I think it’s definitely worth trying, and I know I wouldn’t mind getting this again in the future.

Very black with brownish tight bubbles. Aroma is actually not as rich as the flavor (perhaps it’s too cold). Tastes of vanilla, charred oak, alcohol.

Dark black pour with one finger of chestnut brown head. Very nice nose, awesome bourbon/vanilla component with wood and a touch of chocolate. Clean vanilla and warm wood in the flavor. Very very nice.

Dark brown with a small tan head, sudsy lace. Nose is wood, bourbon, dark fruits, molasses, roast, cocoa. Flavor is more dark fruits, molasses, coffee, vanilla, light tobacco and lots of bourbon. Full bodied with a slick, syrupy finish. A lot like olde hickory event horizon, maybe a little too much barrel, but not undrinkable.

Growler from fiver29 in the 2012 growler swap! Awesome!! Pours thick, dark, black with a deep dark tan head that goes away pretty fast. Nose is roasted chocolate and bourbon. Excellent mouthfeel, heavy, but not overbearing. Toffee, vanilla and wood balance with a nice bourbon taste. A nice bitter chocolate finish on this one!

32oz growler from green’s in greenville. pours a silky but not too thick, deep, dark brown with a thin, mocha head that leaves a sliver of lace on the glass. aroma is great, a pleasant surprise, with heavy roasted malts, black coffee, toasted graham crackers, and chocolate cake backed by light oak, bourbon, coconut, and a touch of black olive. flavor is excellent as well with rich, chocolate brownies, roast coffee, hazelnuts, and wet earth up front backed by charred oak barrel, subtle bourbon, hints of vanilla, and a touch of salty soy. palate is rich but a bit thinner than some of my favorite barrel aged imperial stouts yet it has a long, lingering, roasted finish. overall, a damn fine barrel aged stout. perhaps a bit underrated?

On tap at Jackie O’s. Coffee and chocolate aroma’s. Taste is dominated by the coffee flavor. Sweet on the palate with some toasted malt notes. Not bad.
