4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
6/21/2011: Thirsty Dog Barrel Aged Siberian Night... Aroma: Cocoa nibs, dark chocolate, espresso, roasted malts, muted Madagascar vanilla, and a healthy does of alcohol! Appearance: Opaque black color; static, dense and frothy brown head; nice lacing. Flavor: Lots of barrel char; dark chocolate; hints of vanilla and coffee creme liqueur; quite a bit of bourbony alcohol (maybe a bit too much at times that unfortunately disrupts the intricate balance of this beer and masks the true underlying depth of complexity and flavor); nice warming burn through the nose. Palate: Medium-full to full body; smooth and milky texture; mellow. Overall: Absolutely delicious, but maybe just a touch over the top since more than one pint at a time could spell bad news; definitely has more alcohol and bourbon coming through making it less sessionable as the "regular version", but I always enjoy the flavor of char!
Draught (growler fill) from Party Town in Florence, KY. Rating #101 for this beer.

Bottle. Pours black with a thin brown head. Medium bourbon sweetness, vanilla, coffee, medium roasted malts, and caramel, with light lingering bourbon notes. Good stuff.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle through trade. I have been a fan of the regular version for a long time and remember it being one of the stouts I fell for early on in rating. Cool to see the beer going for the big times with the fancy label and foil cap. Pour has a very dark brown color with a thin whisp of tan head that fell off to a ring on the glass. Aroma has oak, vanilla, bourbon, rich chocolate, and light oxidation. Mouth feel is medium heavy and the carbonation good for a barrel aged beer. Flavor again has a large barrel side, oak, heated bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, mild roast, and some bitterness. There is some heat that burns off a bit once it is in the glass a while and it comes off more rough than the regular version. The review may sound a bit critical but I really enjoyed this beer! Funny this one is rated lower than the regular version that has 10 times more ratings under itís belt, sign of the times for beer I guess.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in Spring 2013. Pours dense pitch black color with a nice 2 finger dense and rocky dark tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, bourbon, oak, clove, vanilla, toast, toffee, roasted malt, light char, raisin, apple, and roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted malt and barrel character; with solid strength. A bit too fruity. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, toast, toffee, oak, clove, bourbon, light char, and roasted earthiness. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, vanilla, toffee, oak, bourbon, light char, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and balance of roasted malt and barrel flavors; with a great malt/barrel flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and full bodied; with a very creamy, moderately slick, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent BA imperial stout. Great complexity and balance of roasted malt and barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

12 ounce bottle thanks big time to Dan. Pours a jet black color with a small brown head, it goes down quick. A sweet big bourbon nose, some vanilla, a bit of roasted malt, fruit. Big bourbon sweetness, vanilla, caramel, light heat, some dark fruit, oily very slick. Very good beer. Hot.

On tap at the brewery. Pours pitch black with tan head. Aroma is bourbon, oak, char, vanilla, and espresso. Heavy mouthfeel, yet thinner for most BA stouts Iíve had. Still, it has a velvety texture. Flavor is booze, vanilla bean, espresso, char, chocolate, and finishes with a touch of bourbon that lingers a touch. Solid.

Thanks for sharing the growler Jason! The beer pours to a black body with a creamy dark brown head. The aroma is heavy on oatmeal, vanilla, chocolate, and clean malts. The flavor is oatmeal, chocolate, a light alcohol, vanilla and oaken barrel. The palate is creamy, smooth, medium bodied, and velvety.

Growler. Poured near black with a creamy dark tan head. The aroma picked up sweet, well-roasted coffee, chocolate, and bourbon sugars with toasted oak, coconut, and vanilla accents.. just the slightest bit medicinal, but very good overall. The flavor found burnt dark chocolate with lesser coffee and black patent maltage.. smooth oats rounded out the middle.. well-integrated barrel impression of bourbon, vanilla, and oak.. tangy, slightly-metallic bourbon and dark chocolate on the finish. Medium-bodied and tangy on the palate, with a smooth feel across the middle.. lighter-bodied than expected, but all in all a very tasty brew.

Tried this tonight at the tasting bar with miketd. Pours black with tan head. There is chocolate, bourbon, and a bit of vanilla/oak on the nose. The flavor comes through as dark chocolate, some burnt malts, caramel, and a very restrained yet pleasing amount of bourbon. The mouthfeel is a bit thinner then I expected but still had a nice velvet feel. This is a solid barrel aged beer and I hope Thirsty Dog bottles this soon.
