COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We took our award winning Siberian Night Russian Imperial Stout and aged it for 11 months in fresh bourbon barrels. The result blew us away. The dark chocolate malt yields a milk chocolate flavor that blends perfectly with the vanilla flavor from the barrel. The bourbon aroma adds the finishing touch.

Black pour with brown highlights. No head. Aroma of chocolate, plum, wood, and bourbon. Flavor is mostly chocolate, plum, toffee, and a hint of bourbon on the back end. Great beer!

Poured on draft. Dark inky black with a bead of greyish foam. Not much lacing either. Aroma is a faint whiff of bourbon that bows out to allow for an onslaught of roasty dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee, marshmallows, vanilla, and a bitterness akin to espresso. Taste is boozy sweetness at first sip, but gives way to an earthy sweetness and an espresso-esque bitter finish. Great beer. Again, nice behind the scenes barrel notes are way better in my book than the in your face ones.

Dark black pour with one finger of chestnut brown head. Very nice nose, awesome bourbon/vanilla component with wood and a touch of chocolate. Clean vanilla and warm wood in the flavor. Very very nice.

Growler pours with a nice dark body that supports a thin tan head. The aroma offers up sweetness, dark roasted malts, molasses covered coconut and mild boozy bourbon. The taste is smooth with molasses, dark roasted malts and some smooth bourbon notes. These notes go well together and the beer and barrel balance is spot on creating a fairly rich and enjoyable sipping experience.

12 oz. bottle from Tasty Beverage Co., Raleigh, NC. Dark, black pour with a thin khaki head. Enticing aroma of bourbon, vanilla, oak, dark chocolate, coconut, and booze. The taste offers a bit less vanilla, bourbon, and coconut than I had hoped for with oak, coffee, and chocolate coming through primarily in the flavor. The vanilla and bourbon are somewhat detected but are muted by the primary flavors. The mouthfeel is not as chewy as I had hoped for. Complaints aside, this is still a stellar beer.

Via trade with Spence3208 The aroma is bourbon, chocolate, cream. Bourbon is properly restrained. The appearance is jet black, thin tan head. The flavor is Bourbon, chocolate, cream, licorice, molasses. The finish is strong booze burn, light pine, some sweetness. Medium/thick in body. Very nice variation of a nice beer. And the bourbon doesn’t overwhelm. Probably wouldbe even nice rafter 6 months in the cellar.

6/21/2011: Thirsty Dog Barrel Aged Siberian Night... Aroma: Cocoa nibs, dark chocolate, espresso, roasted malts, muted Madagascar vanilla, and a healthy does of alcohol! Appearance: Opaque black color; static, dense and frothy brown head; nice lacing. Flavor: Lots of barrel char; dark chocolate; hints of vanilla and coffee creme liqueur; quite a bit of bourbony alcohol (maybe a bit too much at times that unfortunately disrupts the intricate balance of this beer and masks the true underlying depth of complexity and flavor); nice warming burn through the nose. Palate: Medium-full to full body; smooth and milky texture; mellow. Overall: Absolutely delicious, but maybe just a touch over the top since more than one pint at a time could spell bad news; definitely has more alcohol and bourbon coming through making it less sessionable as the "regular version", but I always enjoy the flavor of char!

Draught (growler fill) from Party Town in Florence, KY. Rating #101 for this beer.

Bottle through trade. I have been a fan of the regular version for a long time and remember it being one of the stouts I fell for early on in rating. Cool to see the beer going for the big times with the fancy label and foil cap. Pour has a very dark brown color with a thin whisp of tan head that fell off to a ring on the glass. Aroma has oak, vanilla, bourbon, rich chocolate, and light oxidation. Mouth feel is medium heavy and the carbonation good for a barrel aged beer. Flavor again has a large barrel side, oak, heated bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, mild roast, and some bitterness. There is some heat that burns off a bit once it is in the glass a while and it comes off more rough than the regular version. The review may sound a bit critical but I really enjoyed this beer! Funny this one is rated lower than the regular version that has 10 times more ratings under it’s belt, sign of the times for beer I guess.
