3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
10 oz. snifter at Teller’s. Pours a deep, opaque brown color that shows some transparency on the edges, especially as it gets low, with a small tan ring for a head. Hot aroma, with a lot of fresh boozy bourbon notes, oak, roasted malts, burnt toast, vanilla, and coffee. Flavor of bourbon, oak, roasted malts, coffee, toast, and dark, rich chocolate. Warming alcohol. Medium-full bodied, with moderate carbonation and a warming mouthfeel. This came across as super fresh, and I’d be curious to try it with a little age, as I bet it would mellow out.

A very good taste at first but as it warmed up, too much of a bourbon taste for me.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pour pitch black, with a small but somewhat creamy looking light tan head.
Aroma is pretty roasty on the nose (and on the palate) but followed by a heavy load of coffee, slight bitter chocolate, slight vanilla, some toasted/chared oak, slight banana, bourbon and plenty of green notes as well.
The taste is slightly sweet upfront, with a heavy dose of lingering bitterness from the middle and out. Medium bodied, with a rather fizzy carbonation. Slightly sticky... Thanks Scott, for sending me this.

2012 Vintage. 11/28/13. Pours opaque brown-black with a thin, bubbly brown head. Aroma is oak, vanilla, bourbon, chocolate, booze. Taste is dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, oak, chocolate milk, creamy; finish is bourbon and long n the dark chocolate. Mouth feel is full and oily. Medium-low carbonation is appropriate. Nice lacing. Overall, really nice, tasty.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draught at the brewery tap room, served in a snifter. Pours black with a thin light tan head that diminishes to an outer ring quickly. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and oak, plus a bit of coffee. Medium to full body with flavors of burnt malt, dark chocolate, and subtle bourbon. The finish is malty and slightly woody with a sweet aftertaste. Overall the bourbon barrel aging does not add much character or complexity to the original, which I count as one of my favorites of the style. Still it is a pretty good brew.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler thanks to largadeer. Very dark brown but strangely reflects red light off the top of the beer. Psychedelic almost, dudes. Oaky vinous aroma with caramel and roast. The flavor is almost like a barrel aged barleywine, with lots of caramel and toffee. Prune, raisin, and grape with only slight roast. Medium-full body with lower carbonation. Maybe a bit flat. Great stuff, definitely different.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
32 oz. growler from Party Town. Pours dark brown/black in color with a medium sized creamy tan head. The nose has some of the roasted malts of the base beer, but is muted due to the sweet bourbon and vanilla notes from the barrel. The flavor also has the nice things from the base beer; chocolate, roasted malts, nice bitterness. The barrel adds some sweetness, bourbon and vanilla. Although I like this beer, I still prefer the base beer by a lot. Smooth, but the sweetness would keep me from drinking too much of this.
