This beer is made with one grain and 4 Belgian yeasts, a deceptive golden color, and a malty palate lend complexity to this Belgian Trippel Ale. ABV = 10%, IBUís = 31, OG = 23.1 P

The three headed Hellhound of Greek Mythology, that stood at the gates to Hades, lends his name and three heads to this elegant, full bodied Belgian Style Trippel Ale. A deceptive golden color and wonderful malty palate bring bold complexity to this big brew.

Cloudy gold, thin ring of foam. The words "yeasty" and " boozy" figure prominently in my review. Also some white wine notes, as well. Not bad, but not really to my taste.

decaturstevoís stevofest part 2. Sample from a bottle thanks to decaturstevo. Clear yellow, thin white ring. Aroma is spicy, alcohol. Taste is must the same, musty, spicy, alcohol. Pretty boring.

12oz bottle from Samís, Durham. Clear and quite clean-looking pour, which - as several raters have noted already - resembles apple juice with a bit more carbonation (but not cider dank). Nose is heavily malty to me, with ripe fruits and just a faint spiciness, far less than I want from a tripel. Mouthfeel is quite nice, with a slightly oily feel at first, then pleasant carbonation leading to a semi-dry finish. But this just tastes more like a strong biere de garde to me, and not an especially good one at that.

Gold color with large white head. Strong fruity aroma and flavor with a light alcohol burn. Very good

Four pack purchased at the local grocery store. Poured into a nice wide mouth glass this has a perfect clear golden color with a thin white head. The aroma is full of coriander, ginger, orange and some mild yeast and sugar notes. The palate is superb. The perfect balance between the viscosity involved with such a beer, the heavy syrup-inducing sweet flavors and the bite that comes with the hops and the alcohol. It leave the tongue with this perfect orange blossom-velvety softness, but still manages to come back with a slight crispness to it. I know this might be heresy, but I prefer this to the Siberian Night. This is a fantastic beer.

12 ounce bottle. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a slightly hazy golden/orange color with about a half inch off-white head that didnít stay around for too long. Lacing is decent. The beer smells like peppery spice, yeast, peaches and citrus. However, the aroma is somewhat weak (but nice) so itís a bit hard to notice all the scents in this brew, Iím sure I missed some. Taste is similar to the aroma, the beer tastes like pepper, yeast, citrus, tropical fruit and a little bit of alcohol and cloves. Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís a bit syrupy and slick with moderate carbonation. Drinkability is decent. Overall I think this brew is OK, but thereís really nothing that impressed me about it at all. But itís certainly worth a try.

Fancy, attractive bottle from Samís in Durham. Pours slightly hazy deep golden... almost clear, really, but minute particles floating evenly throughout. Relatively weak and brief head. Nose is really lovely... crisp green apples, orange peel, lemon, yeast, and dough. Maybe a bit of hay. Tastes similar but watery overall, as is the palate. Just seems to fall flat at the end of the taste...

Bottle, has a hazy deep gold pour with little orange hues (there were floaties swirling around), hardly gave a head that flattens to a ring, there was a little effervescence, it appears that this ale has little carbonation, this ale left nice lacing on the glass, I think there would be more of it if there was more carbonation, aromas of apples, faint orange and lemon fruit citrus, has a cake and bread dough sweetness with faint peach and floral-herb fragrances, flavors of orange, peach and banana with bread and fruit sweetness, the finish does have some pepper on the tongue, not as tart or dry as I find in better Trippels, mouth feel is a little more than medium with some creaminess, the 10% alcohol is hidden well in this beer and is a sneaker of an ale but this beer lacked carbonation and more carbonation would have help this drink, the head was much less than expected and lacing was good but could have been much better, not a bad Trippel but it could have been better.

Bottle. Pours a hazy light orange with a decent sized head of off-white foam and many bubbles clinging to the side of the glass. Aromas are a pleasant mix of light fruit (pear and peaches come to mind), cloves, honey and a little bit of a grassiness. Flavor is sweet (honey and light fruit) with a pretty good spiciness to it. Cloves and a vague herbal presence help add some complexity to the mid-palate, while the sweetness seems to hide the ABV nicely. Itís thick and kind of sticky, but not bad.

(Sample Date: 11/17/2009 Source:Capital Ale House - Downtown) Spicy hop and yeast phenolics over moderate caramel sweetness in aroma. Medium golden mostly clear with small white head. Fairly sweet flavor, caramel with spicy hop and yeast notes. Finish is sweet with moderate bitterness.
