3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a soft and coppery red with two fingers of sandy tan head. Very very interesting aroma and flavor. I get a lot of characters that I expect from a port of madera. Lots of dried dark fruit, prune and raisin. Malt forward for sure with some burnt sugar and dark caramel. Bready notes with some herbal hop notes. A pretty savory beer, enjoyed this one.

3.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a light color with very little foam on the head. Has a light caramel malt taste and doesn’t have a very dry aftertaste. Aroma is light and has a regular beer smell to it. Overall it’s good and I recommend giving it a try.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, light nuttiness, light pear/apple, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, light nuttiness, light pear/apple, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, light nuttiness, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Nicely clean with well restrained yeast ester notes in the aroma and flavors. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Irish red ale style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

This poured a red color with an off white head. Aroma was of grassy hops, caramel and toast. Flavor similar, pretty standard for the style but no real underlying flaws.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Clear golden amber pour with ring of khaki head. Nose is faintly biscuity. Flavor is caramel malt, toffee, biscuit, and slightly nutty. Very smooth and easy to drink. I’d still take a killians over this, but hey, its Suprisingly not bad!

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Reviewed from old notes, March of 2012. Sorry for the late upload.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a fine ruddy red color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about less than a minute. Light lacing roamed around the glass.
The smell started off with a dry roasty caramel note and then allowed a decent sweet nuttiness to roll underneath my nose.
The taste was basically the same.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was definitely there with a basking sharpness but nothing overbearing. There was a light dry caramel aftertaste and finish.
Overall, I say this was a decent Irish Red ale I could do again, but I’d have to trade for it or get my butt to Ohio to get it, until then...

12 oz bottle from Jungle Jims 2012 notes. Pours a dark orange amber color with a smaller white head. The aroma and flavor have toasted bready malts, light caramel, mild fruit, light earthy bitterness. Nothing bad, but nothing big that stands out either.
