bottle. Murky brownish with small head. Roasted smoked malt is really the story here. This isn’t a style I normally enjoy, but this seems to be an exception. Very well done.

Black with a tan head. Aroma of bittersweet chocolate, roast, some smoky BBQ/smoked meat, and a bit of chalk. Taste roasty, chalk, dry, real bitter chocolate, maybe a touch of smoke but if you didn’t know it was there you’d probably miss it. Could do with a bit more sweetness, imo, but good nonetheless.

Bottle: Pours black with a thin, dark tan head. Coffee, chocolate malt, smoke aroma. Taste is slightly sour lactic, chocolate, wood smoke, roast, ash. Nice, strong flavours.....very good.

Bottle. Better Beer Of The Month Club. Dark brown to black with a nice tan head. Pleasant roasty aroma with coffee, some dark chocolate and nice smokiness. Rather sweet flavor, roasty and smoky with some dark chocolate, light caramel and nutty notes and a coffee-ish finish. Medium-bodied. Very good.

Columbus Anderson’s bottle. Pours like a very dark stout with a medium brown, foamy head that lasts nicely. Light aroma of sweetened coffee and chocolate. Nice flavor that follows the aroma plus a nice hit of smoke. Very tasty.

12oz bottle picked up at Dutchs. A big, smoky Schwarz...I can dig it. Deep brown black body, not quite opaque. Fading beige head. Nice smoky chocolate aroma. Rich caramel, chocolate, smoked malt tones. Lots of flavor, but not quite nailing it, kind of had a fruity taste like an Ale, not really capturing too many smooth lager tones. OK.

@ Jungle Jims / Eastgate OH Clear, extremely dark mahogany with a 2" tan head that slowly drops to the rim, short snails of lace. Taste is roasted malt and heavy dark bread, joined in the palate by molasses and bitter chocolate, perhaps a hint of coffee. This moves to a lingering bitter finish that never allows the sweet to re-enter. A very substantial brew, especially at 6.7%. Somewhat derivative, but still, a good one from Thirsty Dog.

Bottle. Black body with a thin head and roasty aromas that aren’t real complex but get the point across. Flavor is very nice, however. Lots of roast, smoke and a creamy mouthfeel that make this a wonderful beer.

Draft. Black with an off white head. Aromas of smoke and chocolate. Smells like smoked chocolate. The smoke is up front fading into light chocolate flavors that disappear quickly. The more you drink the smokier it gets.

Bottle. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average frothy tan head that was mostly lasting and produced fair lacing. Moderate toasted sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Good drinkable brew.
