COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We took our award winning Siberian Night Russian Imperial Stout and aged it for 11 months in fresh bourbon barrels. The result blew us away. The dark chocolate malt yields a milk chocolate flavor that blends perfectly with the vanilla flavor from the barrel. The bourbon aroma adds the finishing touch.

Starts with a nice bourbon and roast nose, pours an opaque black with a full tan head. Very strong bourbon presence, with a little bit of heat. There are some chocolate and vanilla hints, but they are overpowered by the bourbon at this point. Very creamy and full mouthfeel. This one may fare better after some aging.

Bottle through trade. I have been a fan of the regular version for a long time and remember it being one of the stouts I fell for early on in rating. Cool to see the beer going for the big times with the fancy label and foil cap. Pour has a very dark brown color with a thin whisp of tan head that fell off to a ring on the glass. Aroma has oak, vanilla, bourbon, rich chocolate, and light oxidation. Mouth feel is medium heavy and the carbonation good for a barrel aged beer. Flavor again has a large barrel side, oak, heated bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, mild roast, and some bitterness. There is some heat that burns off a bit once it is in the glass a while and it comes off more rough than the regular version. The review may sound a bit critical but I really enjoyed this beer! Funny this one is rated lower than the regular version that has 10 times more ratings under it’s belt, sign of the times for beer I guess.

Bottle. Pours dark brown, with a brown head. Aroma is subtle, with roasted malt, chocolate, and bourbon. Flavor is bourbon, chocolate, alcohol, and dark fruit. Body is thinner than expected.

2013-08-17. Black body with a nice tan head. Rich dark malt aroma, sweet vanilla bourbon overtones. 7+ Flavour has similarly rich dark malt, character, light roast and bitterness. Bourbon character is relatively mild. 7+ Smooth average plus bodied palate, soft carbonation. It is pretty good but less so than hoped. It lacks the richness that I remember the base beer having. Bottle, Campground Brewdown.

Bottle. Pours black with a thin brown head. Medium bourbon sweetness, vanilla, coffee, medium roasted malts, and caramel, with light lingering bourbon notes. Good stuff.

Bottle shared by Jeff, thanks! Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates to the edges and remains. Flavor has a nice combination of dark grains and bourbon with a bit of dark chocolate. Flavor is smooth with roasted malts and has some bourbon with a touch of vanilla.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured thick, black and oily with a medium sized creamy dark brown head that left good lacing. The aroma was sweet red wine, amazingly strong coconut, vanilla, toasty malts, chocolate and more toasted coconut - a lot like an Almond Joy candy bar. The flavor was sweet toasted coconut, chocolate, tobacco, vanilla and an undertone of port wine and sour dark fruits. Long chocolate and toasted caramel finish. Full bodied and smooth. The alcohol was well concealed. Marvelous.

Thanks to errl for sharing this bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a brown head. The aroma has a ton of bourbon notes up front with some chocolate and oak also coming through. As the beer warms I get more notes in the aroma including some roasted malt, honey, cinnamon and graham cracker. The flavor is not as complex, but that is hardly a fault. I do get some heavy coffee flavors as well as some roasted malt, oak and bourbon. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A great barrel-aged imperial stout.

6/21/2011: Thirsty Dog Barrel Aged Siberian Night... Aroma: Cocoa nibs, dark chocolate, espresso, roasted malts, muted Madagascar vanilla, and a healthy does of alcohol! Appearance: Opaque black color; static, dense and frothy brown head; nice lacing. Flavor: Lots of barrel char; dark chocolate; hints of vanilla and coffee creme liqueur; quite a bit of bourbony alcohol (maybe a bit too much at times that unfortunately disrupts the intricate balance of this beer and masks the true underlying depth of complexity and flavor); nice warming burn through the nose. Palate: Medium-full to full body; smooth and milky texture; mellow. Overall: Absolutely delicious, but maybe just a touch over the top since more than one pint at a time could spell bad news; definitely has more alcohol and bourbon coming through making it less sessionable as the "regular version", but I always enjoy the flavor of char!

Draught (growler fill) from Party Town in Florence, KY. Rating #101 for this beer.
