Pours a nice dark color with a light tan head. Aroma is heavy on bourbon with chocolate and some roasted malt. Flavor is bourbon, malt, chocolate, and coffee. Mouth feel is not as thin as I expect. Carbonation is average. This beer is heavy bourbon but I don’t sense much under it. I think this will age well.

Pour is thin bodied with very little to no head. Aromas of bourbon vanilla and chocolate. Tastes along the same line. Unfortunately the barrel aging has thinned the beer compared to normal siberian night. Whiskey notes are very dry and lacking in the full body taste. Simetimes too much time in the barrel is not the way to go. Maybe if they used freshly drained barrels the taste would better suit this beer.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, vanilla, light black licorice, maple syrup, and bourbon with some heat. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a small beige head that fades to a thin ring. The flavor starts with chocolate, molasses, and light caramel. It finishes with light-moderate bourbon, light roasted coffee, and vanilla. It’s medium bodied with moderate-lively carbonation and a rather thin mouthfeel for a Imperial Stout. Overall, the aroma leads to high expectations that the flavor doesn’t live up to.

12 oz. bottle from Tasty Beverage Co., Raleigh, NC. Dark, black pour with a thin khaki head. Enticing aroma of bourbon, vanilla, oak, dark chocolate, coconut, and booze. The taste offers a bit less vanilla, bourbon, and coconut than I had hoped for with oak, coffee, and chocolate coming through primarily in the flavor. The vanilla and bourbon are somewhat detected but are muted by the primary flavors. The mouthfeel is not as chewy as I had hoped for. Complaints aside, this is still a stellar beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Growler pours with a nice dark body that supports a thin tan head. The aroma offers up sweetness, dark roasted malts, molasses covered coconut and mild boozy bourbon. The taste is smooth with molasses, dark roasted malts and some smooth bourbon notes. These notes go well together and the beer and barrel balance is spot on creating a fairly rich and enjoyable sipping experience.

12 oz bottle - Waited to have a second bottle before rating since I found this to be a drop off from the non-BA version which I rated a 4.2. Pitch black pour with off white head and minimal retention. Nose is super roasty with chocolate and coffee present. Very little bourbon or barrel character on the nose. Taste has the roasty punch that I have come to love from the non-BA version. What seems to be absent is, again, any barrel characteristics. No vanilla, bourbon, etc..... Although I have plenty to cellar I do not believe extended aging is going to do much for this one.

4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
An old favorite hits the barrel, the first BB beer I’ve done in a while... time to see how this holds up. Black pour with the usual mocha head that dissipates to a film. Lovely aroma of dark chocolate, bready boozey cake, dark fruits, light burnt caramel and vanilla spice. Flavors of dark chocolate, light bourbon, a bit of wood, dates and spice. Boozey, bittersweet, light woodiness and a bit of licorice bite. Mouthfeel is lighter than what I would’ve imagined, not a light beer by any stretch but the barrel thinned some of the chewiness I expect from the regular offering. The finish is booze soaked fruit and a bit of roasted bitterness that lingers. Overall, not real heat that I would expect from some lesser BB offerings... up there with the more elegant BB beers and while it’s not a style I indulge in too often anymore this is certainly a fine example of the the style and BB practice. My only gripe being was the hope that the body was as big as the aroma led me to believe and that the booze becomes a bit more apparent upon warmth.
