Creamy and full-bodied, with a complex character from generous amounts of roasted, toasted, and caramel malts. For those who demand flavor, this is the perfect libation. Bronze Medal winner 2003 GABF, Gold Medal winner 2005 GABF.

Smooth. Nice bitter bite not overwhelming. Drank from the bottle so aroma and color are had to judge. Appeared typical for an imperial stout. Good beer.

P: Dense foamy clouds of espresso set on top of a pitch black body. Retention is nice and long with filmy lacing glued to the glass. S: Roasted dark coffee beans, bakers cocoa, milk chocolate ice cube candy, figs, raisins, dirt, and hints of roasted toffee and hazelnut. Earthy hops. T/M: Burnt molasses, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, toasted grains, smoldered oak, bourbon soaked figs and unwashed apple peels. Subtle cherry in the background. Full bodied but thinner than expected with prickly carbonation. Provides a nice warming sensation and the grainy resinous flavor coats the mouth. Finishes wet and lingers dirty toasted grain. O: A great RIS but I think the low point of this beer is the mouthfeel. A tad too carbonated and a touch thinner than I would like. All in all the flavor profile is right on and nicely developed. All the flavors marry well and attribute to a delicious offering. I will definitely drink this again. Cheers!

Burnt malts and coffee grounds are assaulting my palate right now. That’s funny it feels like I’m growing hair out of my back right now...

Bottle at 69 taps in Akron, OH. Pours a jet black with an ominous tan head. Some lacing in the pint glass (should have poured into a snifter,) Nonetheless the aroma was amazing with dark chocolate, bitter coffee, vanilla, roasted malts and toffee. The taste was more coffee than chocolate, heavy roasted malts, little nutty, oak, booze and vanilla. Medium to full body. Slightly oily. Good carbonation. Lingering bitterness from coffee on the finish and a toasty feeling. It was 7 degrees outside and two of these warmed me up nicely.

12oz bottle pours near-black with 2 finger tan head. Nose is nutty roasted burnt coffee, some booze, a little harsh. Taste is burnt dark bitter coffee with creamy nutty notes. Finish is a bitter ashy, charcoal, cocoa and coffee, vanilla notes, some boozy warmth in there. Pretty good.

Dark with a tan head, Aromas of earthy malts hops and citrus, Flavors are chocolate, malt, coffee and vanilla. A good imperial stout.

I get concerned when I rate this high, but I usually go for the better beers, and on any scale, some of the things being measured have to be at the top. A 4.8 is high, but really means out of 100, this is in the top four. Seems about right for this near black pour with perfect stout brown head. The aroma is amazing. Chocolate is followed by the roasted malts and caramel. A little coffee is added when you get around to tasting it. Wow. One of the best.

12oz bottle from Capones. Midnight black with a dark mocha creamy head that fades to a nice ring and thin film. Fairly roasted malt, balanced amount of coffee, touch of vanilla, even the nose is smooth; moderate carbonation and a full bodied palate, hint of bitterness that grows moderately towards a very chocolate, coffee and malt finish, some hints of alcohol. I agree that this is not a mind blowingly complex beer however all the different parts fit together so well, and its so easy to drink that its just plan delicious.

Both the aroma and taste feature a lot of roasty caramel malts. There’s also a hint of coffee, which makes this reminiscent of Stone’s espresso Russian imperial stout. Goes down smooth and tastes delicious.
