Creamy and full-bodied, with a complex character from generous amounts of roasted, toasted, and caramel malts. For those who demand flavor, this is the perfect libation. Bronze Medal winner 2003 GABF, Gold Medal winner 2005 GABF.

Both the aroma and taste feature a lot of roasty caramel malts. There’s also a hint of coffee, which makes this reminiscent of Stone’s espresso Russian imperial stout. Goes down smooth and tastes delicious.

Bottle shared by czar, thanks! Pours a really dark brown with a tiny beige head that leaves light lacing. Aroma is really boozy but also gives some nice coffee impressions. Taste is chocolatey but also a bit vegetal with some slight green peppers. Mouthfeel is smooth and carbonation moderate. This one was good but not mindblowing.

Bottle (12 oz). Shared by czar, thanks! Very dark brown with reddish reflects, medium creamy beige head, low retention and light lacing. Aroma is fruity with vanilla, burnt caramel and roasted malt. Taste is also fruity, slightly sweet with roasted malt and a green pepper finish. Medium body. Moderate carbonation (weird bubbles). Dry finish. Ok RIS, but a top-50 RIS? No. Not very complex.

bottle older than 2010. pours unclear very dark brown with a small and reviving light beige cap, some lacing. raisins, chocolate, roasted coconut, burnt roasted malts, hint of smoke, some grass and resin, licorice. some sweetness. moderate carbonation - numerous small bubbles, light to medium body - oily, abv well hidden, bold ashy-mineral-vegetal slightly disturbing finish. nice but nothing outstanding really.

Smoky slight burnt taste, taste a bit too strong from my liking, but in line with 10 percent

Mouth feel and taste are most impressive. Poured from bottle. Excellent imperial with a great combination of flavors including vanilla, coffee and nutty tastes.

still a little hot for my tastes, but overall a decent imperial stout. definitely better than their porter.

Poured from bottle into tulip glass. Thick dark pour with just a touch of dark tan foam that quickly faded to a ring. Lovely rush of bubbles at the end of the pour. Aroma is coffee, toast, licorice, cocoa and alcohol. Definite coffee taste, with lots of malt and some licorice, raisin, just a touch of soy. Nice full creamy texture. Very easy to drink, and would NEVER know this is nearly 10% ABV. No harshness or even the usual alcohol warming with this. I have a feeling this would have benefited by coming closer to room temperature before drinking, but I was impatient to try it! A wonderful stout, and Ohio made!

12 oz bottle. The pour is black. Thin darker khaki head, that fades pretty quickly without leaving much head. The aroma is a little licorice heavy on the immediate nose, with roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate notes coming through. The flavor is really based on the roast, and then the complexities come through with the coffee chocolate and licorice. The body is pretty thick, and coats nicely before finishing a touch dry. Very solid beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
