Creamy and full-bodied, with a complex character from generous amounts of roasted, toasted, and caramel malts. For those who demand flavor, this is the perfect libation. Bronze Medal winner 2003 GABF, Gold Medal winner 2005 GABF.

Aroma is full of roast and smoke. This is one of those stouts that reminds you of smoked meat instead of a rich chocolate bar. Hints of leather and tobacco with some faint dark fruit ester notes. Pours a dark brown that doesn’t quite reach black with a thick mocha head that quickly recedes to the edges. Light lacing with medium legs. The roasted malt hits you right away in the flavor with some smoked meat notes as well as tobacco and leather. The flavor ha some raisin and cherry flavors to it and a bit of a chocolate note - more complex than the aroma. There is a bit of an stringency to this as well as a bit of an ashtray flavor. Bitterness is moderate and alcohol is well hidden. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. There is a very silky smoothness to this beer. Astringency is moderate as is alcohol warmth. Overall an enjoyable change of pace from the super chocolatey stouts that I have been drinking lately. This would be amazing if they could tone down the astringency and ashtray character. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Wow. I love this imperial stout because it doesn't go overboard on the coffee, roast or licorice flavors. All of those are there but it is well in the background. Up front is good old alcohol heat, oak and bourbon. My kind of stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tasted from bottle. Pours a black with thick beige head. Aroma is chocolate, caramel and a little vanilla. Taste is dark chocolate and coffee with hints of vanilla. Caramel and toffee as well. Very smooth and pretty full bodied. Moderate sweetness and mild bitterness. Not as drying on the palate as some imperial stouts. Overall a very tasty imperial stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Flavor is a nice dark malt balance and vanilla with a sweet waming finish. Full bodied brew with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Enjoyable all the way through.

Fantastic imperial stout. Quite sweet with whiskey and chocolate notes. Sweet and flat like syrop. Pretty strong and warm in the throat - the whiskey ageing helps.

Slightly sweet, malty, whisky barrel, vanilla, an absolutely wonderful beer. I only wish the finish was better, taste dampers off quickly with a strong abv ending. Would buy again

12 oz bottle poured to snifter. Sits black, very thin tan head caps the beer. Aromas of char, toasted, dark fruit, molasses and a wafting alcohol. Taste is nicely balanced anise, coffee...with hints of bitter baker;s chocolate, dark fruit, caramel/toffee....some molasses and vanilla push some sweetness towards the back and allow for some hops to swoop in on a bitter finish. Good stuff, if not a bit "safe" for my tastes! Ha!
