Creamy and full-bodied, with a complex character from generous amounts of roasted, toasted, and caramel malts. For those who demand flavor, this is the perfect libation. Bronze Medal winner 2003 GABF, Gold Medal winner 2005 GABF.

Hmmm, high expectations led me to be a little disappointed in this offering. Don’t get me wrong, this is a fine brew, but tends to be a bit strong on the black and roasted malts and could benefit from some additional caramel malts to bring the balance and the ABV up a bit. The aroma is a bit like burnt coffee, lacking the smooth coffee/chocolate balance that I’d like to see (or smell). Flavor is nice, but not amazing. The roastiness finishes with some nice bitterness, but the beer lacks the complexity and balance that I had hoped for.

355ml bottle enjoyed @ home, thanks to nofunsally. Pours black with a firm beige head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, salty liquorice, charcoal, coffee, caramel, soy sauce and a bit chalky. Flavour is medium sweet and medium bitter. Medium bodied, too thin texture, soft carbonation. Finish is surprisingly bitter and one-dimensional.

Pours dark brown almost black with a creamy tan head. Nice roasted malt aroma. Light carbonation. Slightly oily and creamy texture. Strong lingering roasted flavor. Somewhat bitter finish but not too harsh. Descent Imperial stout but pretty one dimensional flavor. Not bad but not as good as it could be.
