3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sample at the Pint Room. Dark brown pour that is somewhat clear around the edges. Medium tan head that dissipates steadily to a film. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Light-bdoied with a mild roasty character and flavors of caramel malt and coffee. The finish is sweet with a short roast malt aftertaste. I guess I understand the point of the beer but it is pretty average nonetheless.

On tap. Good tan head. Light carbonation. Dry texture. Light aroma, but it’s enjoyable. Roasty malts, light coffee, hint of cocoa.. Tasty sort of savory taste, with a very light bitter. A really solid stout for a session. This is the kind of thing the beerosphere needs more of.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft. Pours a soft black color with a light brown/beige head. Smells of light chocolate and malt maybe a hint of coffee. Tastes like guinness except way thinner, lack of body and creaminess. It’s like the opposite of Siberian Night.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Draft @ Dutch’s (March 2011). Pours dark brown with a small beige head. The aroma is heavy with char and ash with lighter roasted malt and dark chocolate. The flavor is much of the same with char dominating everything. Some roasted malt and chocolate. Body is thin and watery. Very disappointing because Siberian night is one of my favorites.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at The Federal, Derm. Had this on one of the first chilly evenings of autumn and was seriously in the mood for a dry stout. Pour was distressingly thin, auguring poorly for the drinking experience to come. TD can rock the stouts, but they really missed the mark on this one. Compared to solid session dry stouts like Victory’s Donnybrook, this one was watery, weak, and thin, with very little flavor save for the mildest of bitters on the back end. Ugh.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap at Fat Heads. Darkest brown pour with a big tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, ash and a bit of diacetyl. Flavor is roasty up front with some butteriness and a bit of chocolate in the finish. Kind of weak and the butteriness has got to go.

UPDATED: AUG 2, 2013
July 17-19, 2008: Thirsty Dog Stud Service Stout is a low alcohol (3.1% ABV) Dry Irish Stout that has a nice chocolate and roasted malt aroma. The flavor is also roasty and dry, but it comes across as thin and watery due to the lack of body. This beer is near black in color and has a fading beige to tan-colored head. It definitely needs more body, but is easy to drink as it is...
Draught sample in Athens, Ohio during Ohio Brew Week 2008. Rating #3 for this beer. Score: 7/3/6/1/13=3

4/07/2011: Thirsty Dog Stud Service Stout... Aroma: Smells roasty anddry with notes of chocolate and black patent malt along with some sort of burnt meat. Appearance: Extremely dark brown color; opaque; dense beige head. Flavor: Rich and roasty; pleasing cofee, silky smooth dark chocolatey goodness; finishes like oily expresso. Palate: Medium to medium-full body; surprisingly calm and smooth with very little carbonation. Overall: Sessionable all day long and better than expected!
