Our hefe is made with 50% wheat malt and only pure German wheat yeast. This yeast which shows in the cloudiness in the beer also creates the delightful clove vanilla and banana aromas. Truly a unique beer, taste Bavaria through Thirsty Dog today. IBU=10, OG=12P, 5.2%ABV

12 oz bottle, purchased @ Nikki’s Liquors in Providence, RI. REAL Hazy yellow nearly orange. Normal carbonation, with yeast floating around. Pleasant nose of Bavarian yeast and a bit of orange. A pretty good take on a German Hefeweizen. More citrus then clove, but still the body and yeast is right on the money. fF you like this style you should like this brew. Well made and has drinkability.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2015 Bottle. Banana, orange, lemon, clove, and wheat malt aroma. Cloudy golden yellow with huge off-white head. Sweet banana, orange, strong clove, wheat malt and straw aroma. Bitter clove finish. Pretty good.

(draft @ Melt Bar and Grilled - Cleveland Heights, OH) Hazy orange pour with almost no head and very mild carbonation. Very light aroma. Really had to search for any sort of clove or yeast in the nose. Flavor is a subtle and mild yeast, spice and wheat taste at the start but it disappears quickly and leaves really no aftertaste..

Pours a hazy dark yellow white with foamy white head. Aroma is damp dough and some spice - fairly uninspiring. Flavor is very typical banana dough with tad coriander and a few floral notes. For a beer that claims to be a "truly unique beer" this one definitely is not.

On tap into a pint glass. Appearance is a hazy gold with a one-finger sized white head. Aroma is all esters: banana, nutmeg, cloves, orange peels. Taste is sweet, fruity, and esters. Pretty solid beer, I don’t understand why it has such a low rating on here. Maybe I just got an awesome glass.

Orange coloured body, some white head. pleasant enough wheat aromas. Taste a bit orangey, cloves, bannana bread, and above average mouthfeel, although some carbonation offset. Decent drinkability, though not terribly. It’s the style but not the best representative.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2012 I am a big fan of this style so perhaps my standards or expectations are a bit too high but this one ended up disappointing me. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a murky apricot color with a small foamy white head that left some lacing. The aroma was tangy with moderate clove and a light tart and citric presence and a bit of an industrial undertone. The flavor was bready with moderate clove and light notes of bubblegum, coriander and cardboard. The finish was medium length dryish bread , clove and cardboard. Moderately full bodied. Uninspired.

Pours a orange color with a small white head. Aroma of coriander, yeast and wheat. Pretty smooth with a bit of bitterness at the finish. Not bad.

Old bottle which allowed the yeast cake to settle quite nicely to bottom and allowed for an initial pour which was bright and clear vibrant yellow, but after rousing the yeast, turned it a darker hued cloudy burnt orange with wispy clearish white head, that quickly fades. Surprisingly, this had exactly the notes you look for in a german hefe - banana, clove, vanilla, light breadiness. Crisp and refreshing, but with a velvety mouthfeel. Honestly, this is pretty damn good for an american try at the traditional style.

Bottle. Nose of heavy mineral water and the light band-aid that makes me cringe at the thought of how this yeast has been treated. Still, some nice vanilla and honey notes in with the citrus. Gradient golden pour with a very noisy sudsy white head. Bubblegum taste on flat wheat, a little too crisp and too near to metal. Light vanilla and very faint banana bread. Slimy and oily medium body. Not great, but hit the spot - refreshed.
