Our hefe is made with 50% wheat malt and only pure German wheat yeast. This yeast which shows in the cloudiness in the beer also creates the delightful clove vanilla and banana aromas. Truly a unique beer, taste Bavaria through Thirsty Dog today. IBU=10, OG=12P, 5.2%ABV

This is fine really. Thereís the gloves in the aroma and the banana esters, but the flavor is a little muddied.

12 oz. bottle from ryanmcfly1985- thanks again, Ryan! Pours a clear gold with a white ring for a head. Notes of corn, cereal, straw, wheat, sugar, apple, and a metallic thing throughout. Light-bodied, with low carbonation and a sweet, watery mouthfeel. Iíd consider this a weakish wheat ale, as it doesnít drink much like a hefe at all.

12 oz. bottle at home. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have pale wheat malts, banana, light spice, hints of vanilla, mild citrus, pretty boring hefe that I wonít be revisiting.

12 oz bottle, poured into a tulip glass at approximately 40 degrees F. A: Well, first and foremost, this bottle erupted like a foam Vesuvius when I popped the cap off. I managed to pour some of the geyser into the glass (which promptly overflowed with foam), and then had to let the bottle and the glass sit in the sink for a bit to calm down. Once the magma flow had cooled and it was safe to walk on the parking lot where Pompeii once stood, I was able to assess the appearance of the beer. It pours a tawny, very cloudy gold, like a lion in the shade. Head formation is, I shall assume, not only present, but problematic. Thereís also decent lacing - ask me how I know! S: This opens with a fairly strong bouquet of traditional hefe aromas, with the banana, pear, apple, and clove notes. Thereís something I canít quite place underlying them, however, something almost astringent or antiseptic in odor. T: The astringency from the nose? It carries into the taste. Thereís some serious adhesive-style flavor to this beer, right from the opening. The rest of the flavor palate seems diluted at best behind that "manufactured by 3M" thing thatís going on. Thereís also a metallic tinge to the flavor, though neither copper nor iron - almost aluminum-esque, despite being in a bottle. M: Watery. By the finish, this beer feels like it has split into its constituent parts, the bulk of which is just water. And dare I mention the carbonation sharpness? O: Not a favorite hefeweizen of mine. Iím not certain what was going on with the headsplosion, but I am fairly certain that I wonít be picking this up again.

The Sampler, Brooklyn bottle: Pours cloudy orange with a white head. Aroma is banana and spice. I wouldnít have called this a hefe as much as I would call it an American wheat. Nice and sweet. Nice fruity flavors. Overall, I think that this was somewhat under-rated.

Tap. Deep golden with small head. Why canít American brewers make a decent hefe? Has about half the flavor of a German hefe. Light banana, but weak sauce.

quite an appropriately flavored and well bodied brew of the species! not overdone or slick the beer is drinkable and alcohol seemed right. not amped up, but again seemingly genuine in ever way.

Bottle from giant eagle. Nose is banana and clove with some wheat. Decent yeast fullness and banana, clove and spice in there but not too strong. Not great but decent. ---Rated via my mouth

12oz bottle into Le Listermann - nose is wet wheat/hay with almost banana/clove aromas. Label also says wheat beer but German Hefeweizen is more apropos. Fairly flat but very refreshing. Underrated for sure. Somewhat chewy (as the talking dog says in the Simpsons when it is pointed out that dogs canít talk). I honestly thought I was going to rate a boring wheat ale but turned out for the best.

no no no. this is not a german hefe, not by any stretch of the imagination. its another american wheat ale, pure and simple. you put a Paulaner or a Franz up against this and try and tell me this is a hefe. no way.
