Our hefe is made with 50% wheat malt and only pure German wheat yeast. This yeast which shows in the cloudiness in the beer also creates the delightful clove vanilla and banana aromas. Truly a unique beer, taste Bavaria through Thirsty Dog today. IBU=10, OG=12P, 5.2%ABV

Bottle. Pours yellow-orange with a whitish head. VERY malty wheat aroma. Taste is yeast and malt with a watery-malt finish. Different flavors of malts include citrus, banana, and wheat. Overall not bad for this style of beer.

Bitter and sour on initial swallow but finishes nice and clean. Beer was easier to drink upon initial pouring when cold and was not as enjoyable when it warmed up.

Poured from a bottle. Pours a cloudy deep orange-amber with a huge white foamy head. Very nice wheat and bready yeast aroma. Highly carbonated. Full mouth feel with a bready yeast and wheat flavor. Very refreshing and pure. No clove, banana or other added flavors, just wheat and yeast but still very enjoyable. Much better than other American brewed beers of this style. I liked it a lot even without the added flavors. Simple, pure, and very good for this style.

Bottle from a mix-a-six I got at the Legacy Village Giant Eagle on my way home from seeing my girl. Certainly not a bad beer... but it’s just short on everything a benchmark hefeweizen has going for it. It needs more of everything: nose, body, clove, banana, creaminess. Note to Thirsty Dog: drink more Weinheistephaner or Schneider Weiss (or any German-made version of the style) and eventually you’ll get it right. Amp it up.

Bottle. Pours a wheaty color with a sweet taste. Decent easy drinking beer. Nothing special but ok

Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - 12 oz bottle. Slight haze to the medium golden pout, light off-white head, no lace. Aroma has some clove and banana which melds together in an unpleasant butterscotch essence. Flavor is similar in nature, cloyingly sweet, all that really comes through is the butterscotch. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Not feeling on this one - Thirsty Dog is usually pretty solid.

Earnest pup on the label. Standard 12 oz longneck. Fun cap. Foggy maplewood appearance, thin white head. Aroma was slightly diacetyl, sweaty ale yeast, lightly pickled peaches. A buffered tanginess, lightly mineral, a little butterscotch, low bittering. Body is a bit light, the usual hefe wet paper bag starchiness, loses carbo. Aftertaste turned tangy. Drinkable, slightly flawed. ABC Liquors, Betton.

12 oz. bottle from ryanmcfly1985- thanks again, Ryan! Pours a clear gold with a white ring for a head. Notes of corn, cereal, straw, wheat, sugar, apple, and a metallic thing throughout. Light-bodied, with low carbonation and a sweet, watery mouthfeel. I’d consider this a weakish wheat ale, as it doesn’t drink much like a hefe at all.

12 oz. bottle at home. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have pale wheat malts, banana, light spice, hints of vanilla, mild citrus, pretty boring hefe that I won’t be revisiting.

12 oz bottle, poured into a tulip glass at approximately 40 degrees F. A: Well, first and foremost, this bottle erupted like a foam Vesuvius when I popped the cap off. I managed to pour some of the geyser into the glass (which promptly overflowed with foam), and then had to let the bottle and the glass sit in the sink for a bit to calm down. Once the magma flow had cooled and it was safe to walk on the parking lot where Pompeii once stood, I was able to assess the appearance of the beer. It pours a tawny, very cloudy gold, like a lion in the shade. Head formation is, I shall assume, not only present, but problematic. There’s also decent lacing - ask me how I know! S: This opens with a fairly strong bouquet of traditional hefe aromas, with the banana, pear, apple, and clove notes. There’s something I can’t quite place underlying them, however, something almost astringent or antiseptic in odor. T: The astringency from the nose? It carries into the taste. There’s some serious adhesive-style flavor to this beer, right from the opening. The rest of the flavor palate seems diluted at best behind that "manufactured by 3M" thing that’s going on. There’s also a metallic tinge to the flavor, though neither copper nor iron - almost aluminum-esque, despite being in a bottle. M: Watery. By the finish, this beer feels like it has split into its constituent parts, the bulk of which is just water. And dare I mention the carbonation sharpness? O: Not a favorite hefeweizen of mine. I’m not certain what was going on with the headsplosion, but I am fairly certain that I won’t be picking this up again.

The Sampler, Brooklyn bottle: Pours cloudy orange with a white head. Aroma is banana and spice. I wouldn’t have called this a hefe as much as I would call it an American wheat. Nice and sweet. Nice fruity flavors. Overall, I think that this was somewhat under-rated.
