On tap at Thirsty Monk South in Asheville, this pours a deep mahogany into the glass, with a light eggshell wispy cap that reduces to a thin ring that leaves sparse lacing. The nose is of dark ripened fruits and caramel. Flavors are very complex, with vanilla, caramel, light toffee, fruity esters, a hint of the superbly-hidden alcohol, roasts and assorted nuts. The finish is a touch of citric cherries. A bold full body accompanies a smooth palate, providing a wonderful quaff that is just lively enough to be active against such substantive complexities. A truly great brew from one of my favorite local brewers.
