rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Nov 7, 2009 Shared with Radek, Frylock, Garthicus and Blankboy - thanks to Swoopjones for the bottle. Black, nice tan head. Nose is coffee, rich toffee, a bit of alcohol & spice. Flavor is huge roast, a bit burnt, honey, rich rich malt. Lingering sweet finish. hirigalzkar (544), Stockholm, Sweden Nov 4, 2009 Bottle. Smoked licorice! Do I need to say any more? Coffee. This is an easy to drink, yet complex porter. paiste2002 (148), Saugus, California, USA Oct 27, 2009 Bottle. Pours pitch black with a huge tan head that lasts a good ten minuets into this lovely beer. As I type there is still a thick layer of tan foam covering the beer, also leaves some awesome lace.
Aroma is peated malt smokiness over chocolate. Flavor is smoky peated malt, chocolate, coffee and some raisin in the mix. The black licorice really comes through in the finish, along with bitter chocolate. Very creamy mouth feel, this would go great with chocolate cake. Wow! This was a huge surprise to say the least, I’d heard to was great but this one lives up to the hype, and only $4.99 a bottle. Better stock up. cathcacr (585), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 22, 2009 What can I say, it’s distinctive and delicious. There is a strong smoked-meat character here, I won’t say bacon, that’s just too easy. More like smoked salmon. Smoked salmon in a bottle. Yum. Now that’s good beer.
ChrisThomson (374), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 21, 2009 Bottle. Tasty beer!!! Pours dark borwn with tan head. Nose of peaty yeast. Thicky body, and continued peaty, smokey cinammon, and roastey notes. Finisih slightly bitter, but clean. Pawola22 (676), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Oct 21, 2009 11.2oz bottle with 01/07/09 stamped on the front label. Pours a deep brown, almost black body with a finger-width, brown, creamy head that dissipates slowly and leaves lots of succulent lacing. Gorgeous with great retention. Aroma is strong smoked malts that are a bit meaty with plenty of bittersweet dark chocolates. Licorice and burnt raisin sweetness accompany the creamy chocolates more and more as this warms. Flavor is sweetly smoked with lots of bittersweet dark chocolates and a bit of ash. More of the licorice and burnt raisin comes in before this finishes with an even mix of smoke and creamy chocolate. Dry and slightly metallic with a medium length aftertaste with the smoked malts sticking out the most. Medium bodied and smooth with just a touch of carbonation. Overall, a delicious Baltic Porter. Not the most complex, but well put together and well balanced. Very impressed. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 18, 2009 330 ml bottle - dense, dark brown pour with 1/2" thick tan head settling slowly; rich aromas of coffee, licorice, peaty roast, creamy chocolate; texture is on the rich side with silky sweetness; bitter coffee at first sip with a dry, almost smoky flavor; wow, quite the flavor mix with lots of coffee, bitter chocolate and slight smoke notes; plenty of oaty sweetness; great stuff even though a little thicker than you’d expect, a true standout in the style Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA Oct 17, 2009 Pours with a dark brown to black body topped by a medium thick to thick head with some lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a smokey, peaty note, notes of licorice and a slight bitterness. Full bodied, smooth and slightly warming.
