COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Thin creamy medium tan head, blackish-chestnut opaque body. Aroma is smoky dark roasted malts, a little salty, belgian dark chocolate sauce, and beef jerky. Flavor is a bit of anise, then roasted/burnt caramel malt, salty smokyness, and a dry/salty finish. Bitter dark chocolate aftertaste and faint boozyness.

I like this porter for its smokey aroma and the taste of tar and toast. I prefer other porters to this one though, since its only virtue is the smokeyness. But a good beer I think.

Bottle 50cl. Black with a dark beige head. Deep nose of coffee, roasted malt, smoked fish (sounds strange, but it’s the smell of burned wood in a smoke oven). Rich taste which compliments the aroma, and some caramel. Long finish. A very nice beer.

500 ml bottle from bursprak, thanks! Into a snifter, ABV 7.9% The beer is totally black in colour, with a tall dark brown head, thick, with very good retention. After it has collapsed, well-formed rings of lacing are left behind. Aroma has chocolate, light coffee, obvious alcohol. Nice but a bit faint. Taste on the other hand comes full force on. Again chocolate, plenty of alcohol, some liquorice, raisins, roasted malts. Nice bitterness on the aftertaste. Quite thick on the body, with nice carbonation. Very good.

Bottle 33cl from Henrik, a dark beer with low copper head. Nose is intense on burnt vegetables notes. Aroma is roasted with intense roasted notes, some rotten touch, smoked notes, roasted, spicy, personally not my cup of tea.

330 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 1/7/2008. Pours hazy fairly pitch black color with brown edges, with a 1 finger dense tan head with goof retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big raisin, plum, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, dark bread, molasses, light smoke, light licorice, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity of dark/roasted malt, light licorice, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, roasted malt, coffee, raisin, molasses, light smoke, light licorice, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Slight roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, roasted malt, coffee, molasses, light smoke, light licorice, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt flavors, light licorice, and yeast ester flavors; with great robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very creamy and lightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Baltic porter! All around great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, licorice, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

A few ounces from a 33 cl bottle, the rest was used for cooking. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma and taste are coffee, ash, some chocolate and lots of liquorice. Pretty tasty!
