COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Coffee, liquorice, dark malts, black chocolate, grains, cocoa, black caramel, some grassy notes to the tongue. Easy going on palate, medium bitter, fruity. Finishes in a chocolate way and sweet. 2014-04-19. Black body with a modest tan head. 3+ Aroma is pretty interesting, sort of a cocoa roast dark malt melange. A note of something that is not quite coconut. 8+ Flavour is similar with a dark malty core, light mocha cocoa roast notes throughout, dryish dusty cocoa character lingers in the finish. 7++ Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate, moderate carbonation. Solid stuff, deceptively simple, lovely. On tap at Torst, Brooklyn

Whenever I go home to Skagen on vacation, I head to my local Brugsen to see if they have Limfjords Porter. For some reason this beer is never around in Norway. It is somewhat odd, as most people who know anything about beer in Norway knows this one, and they love it. In the days before Mikkeller, Beer Here, Amager and all the rest, if there was one beer from Denmark in a beer book, for a while, it would be this one, and no other. A beer that tastes like expensive and exclusive riches, this storebought, somewhat in-asuming gem hits all the marks. Pours a thick and vicious looking black with a candy dark brown frothy head. The liquorish and ashy burnt flavours make my toes curl. This is the kind of beer you’d expect a doctor to proscribe to you for various health reasons. Before you stuble into the most amazing beer bars, brewpubs or beer shops, be they in Copenhagen or Aalborg. Do yourself a favour, go to a well stocked grocery store and buy yourself a couple of these bad boys!

I like this porter for its smokey aroma and the taste of tar and toast. I prefer other porters to this one though, since its only virtue is the smokeyness. But a good beer I think.
