Commercial Description:

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a huge tan head that lasts a good ten minuets into this lovely beer. As I type there is still a thick layer of tan foam covering the beer, also leaves some awesome lace. Aroma is peated malt smokiness over chocolate. Flavor is smoky peated malt, chocolate, coffee and some raisin in the mix. The black licorice really comes through in the finish, along with bitter chocolate. Very creamy mouth feel, this would go great with chocolate cake. Wow! This was a huge surprise to say the least, I’d heard to was great but this one lives up to the hype, and only $4.99 a bottle. Better stock up.

Bottle @ Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours pitch black like engine oil with a big tan head. Aroma: Liquorice, spice, chocolate, alcohol, malt, quite creamy with some oak there. Taste: Huge oak-ness to it, lots of liquorice, alcohol, almost ’chewy’, brandy, red wine, long wood barrel aged whiskey finish. Nice.

Bottle shared with Radek Kliber, frylock, garthicus & rudolf -- c/o swoopjones. Pours an impenetrable black with a nice frothy tan head. Nice lacing. Great aroma of chocolate, coffee, toffee, alcohol, licorice, spices and more -- quite complex, there’s lots there. Flavour, also great, of lightly burnt roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, licorice, oak, alcohol, dark fruit, a hint of smoke and more -- again, like the aroma, more and more flavours reveal themselves as you drink it. Nice, long sweet finish. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. Simply fantastic, what a beer!

Holy crap is this smoky! Like a rochbier, but done to a baltic porter. There is some sweetness in here, but it’s hard to find amidst the bacon flavor. The smell is nowhere near as potent as the flavor, so it really caught me off guard. Pour looks like a pitch black sludge, like I’m pouring a Ten Fidy. Head quickly dissolves. Bottle from Knightly Spirits in Orlando.

Very tasty beer. Some coffee, some smoke, some spice, some sweetness. Label says made with liquorice, but that’s not strongly apparent. Pours a deep dark brown with thin to no head. Aroma is very enticing and there’s a nice smoky finish.

Pours dark brown with a small beige head that reduces to a ring. Tiny bit of lacing. Aroma is licorice, roasted malt, light coffee, light smoke. Flavor is more licorice, a little chocolate and coffee. Finish picks up some smoked meat notes as I work down the glass. Body is on the thin side, low carbonation. OK. Middle-of-the-road for baltic porters which are one of my favorite styles.

04-DEC-2009, bottle, Ulkløbben @Michael. Bery dark brown, light brown head. A bit dull nose. Very roasted, liqourice, tar, smoke, burned asphalt. Slightly bitter hoppy ending and a little thin. Complex and not a beginners porter. Very nice.
