COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available in 500ml bottles and in 5l & 20l boxes.
NOTE: Although named as "Thistly Cross Original Cider 7.2% (Still)" on the producer’s website, the word "Original" does not appear on the bottle labels. Also notes that the bottle labels do not clearly indicate whether it is the Still or Sparkling version (which are different).
Our 7.2% Farmhouse Cider is smooth, refreshing and Thistly Cross’ first born. It’s a classic, farmhouse cider made with a blend of Scottish apples. The 6 month maturation makes it refreshing, smooth & fruity.

Cask @ Old Post Office, Halifax. Straw-blond colour with a bubbly head. Lots of apple taste that lingers with the strength not as evident as it might suggest. Has a potent nose too.

Cask at Secklow Hundred (JDW), Milton Keynes. Mid-yellow, slightly hazy. A decent white head. This looks like a beer. And smells... off. Sour, buttery and greasy. The taste is infinitely better: a sweetish tang followed by a balanced sourness. The alcohol is warming on the way down. Brown sugar, rum and vanilla partner apple in the aftertaste. Passable.

50cl bottle from Provenance Wines. Appearance - amber with no head. Nose - not getting much apple but really big ethanol note. Taste - more of the same. No fruit but plenty of alcohol. Palate - not much body texture or refreshment. Just alcohol burn. Overall - really disappointed. This is my favourite style of cider but this bares no resemblance to anything I’ve had from the West Country.

500ml bottle from Hippo Beers. Fruity ripened pear nose continuing to a high juice, appleade flavour. Very sweet, almost too much but still had me savouring that taste.

Yellow pour with no head or lace. Apples and sour. Rich apple taste with a tart finish. Full body for a cider.

Hot aroma, a punch. Quite rough in the mouth too. At least when cold. Does mellow as it warms though, but still remains hot. Quite winey, some honey aspects. Pleasantly fruity still, but the winey aspects are quite heady. A bit rough, but the warmer end is sweeter and smoother.
