Smoky, chocolaty aroma has a strong overtone of banana - hey, I love bananas. It pours a deep, warm sable with a decent tan head that doesn’t last but leaves some decent lacing. Smoky flavor has chocolate and banana notes - banana split indeed! - plus hints of caramel, bread and coffee. It is a little sweet, but not cloying, and rather lip-smacking. Smooth, heavy texture is a bit syrupy and somewhat fizzy, leaving a satisfying smoky, tingly finish with a strong banana note. Go bananas over this one!

Aroma is bready and malty. The flavor is malty and a bit of bananas and a hint of chocolate. Not too bad, the bottle is a pain to open though.

750ml bottle - Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe in Alpharetta, Georgia. A pesky bottle to get into. The wire on the cage had been way over twisted, I just had to cut it off. The rubber cork was crammed too far into the bottle, requiring a wine open to wrestle it out.
Appearance: Slips out a black body with a couple of inches worth of craggy, tan-hued foam.
Smell: Sweetish, smelling of shaved semi-sweet chocolate, but also roast and just-cut, ripe bananas. Lesser notes of dark, plum-leaning fruits and caramel.
Taste: Sweet, roasted malts with flavors of chocolate syrup, caramel, smoky-toned molasses, burnt toast, and modestly roasty coffee. A few dark fruits to latch onto, but, then the banana comes in. It’s a bit slight, for me it’s ample, but, with a yellow label and a big-ass banana-woman hybrid, you may be left wanting a bit more. Again, it was enough for me. Then, as the banana slowly dies away, it’s back to the chocolate coated roasted grains until the smooth, yearningly creamy finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Smooth, soft mouthfeel.
Overall: It’s not overtly banana-esque, like that Wells Banana Bread Beer, as the subtler banana inclusion has some strong, roasty malts to compete with for your attention. I enjoy it - passable banana flavors over a solid stout.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pour is dark brownish black with a nice off white head, aroma has notes of some chocolate, toffee, and hints of vanilla, and a slight hint of banana in there as well. Taste was not quite as good as I’d thought, banana slightly in there but really just chocolate, vanilla and toffee making a sweet slightly dry stout.

On draft at Cigar City for Fruit in the Room 2011. Pours a lighter stout brown with a white-ish head. Nose is some chocolate, some banana, and some cocoa, slight roast, and a hint of bitterness. Flavor is similar, but the chocolate and cocoa are a bit bullied by the banana flavor. The balance here is banana chased with stout and not playing nicely with each other. Light to medium in body and a finish with some banana.

Poured at cigar city for fruit in the room. Poured a midnight oil color, that had choclate, vanilla, and banana aromas. Looked promising, however, tastes of chocolate, and malt hit the palate with weak banana flavor. Great concept, wish the banana flavor was more prominent.

Had high hopes for this one. Smelled pretty much like any other sweet stout but with a touch of banana hiding in their and a very faint vanilla. Not strong enough for me to be too enjoyable. Other than that, it had notes of chocolate malts and some slight hops. Poured nice and dark with a lighter colored head. Taste was similar to the nose. I didn’t get a whole lot of banana split flavors coming through, just had a likeable sweetness and a hint of vanilla in there. Good but not the best.

Sampled at the Brewvival 2011. They actually served this as a ’float’ with vanilla icecream, but I sampled both with the icecream and without. Black pour with tan head ring. Sweet chocolate with a faint banana end. Creative for sure, but it does have alcohol notes.

A deep dark brown stout with a thick brown head. In aroma, smooth chocolate, faint banana esters. In mouth, as it says, chocolate and bananas, not bad but a tad cloying. On tap at Brewvival, Feb. 26 2011.
