Crisp and citrusy, this India Pale Ale derives its atypical dark copper brown color from malted chocolate wheat. Heavily hopped, the Chocolate Orange IPA’s bitterness blends with the dark chocolate flavors of the cocoa nibs added during fermentation. Those subtle chocolate notes rest behind a floral bouquet, enhanced by additions of bitter orange peel and dry hopping with Citra.

On tap at Capone’s. Poured a mahogany color with an off white head. Lacing left on the glass. Aromas of earth, roast, and chocolate. Tastes of citrus, chocolate, caramel, and some roast. Sweeter with the bitterness and hops taking a backseat - would not have guessed this was an IPA.

Pours a brown color with a foamy off-white head - a very unique look for an IPA. Aroma is faintly sweet, of chocolate, caramel, and citrus. The taste begins with a sweet orange in the head, with chocolate and caramel in the body, and some dry bitterness in the finish. Has a medium body feel and some carbonation. Very interesting. I enjoyed this.

From the April 2014 3R6P gathering. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark nut brown color with orange highlights and a medium sized foamy beige head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was odd, somewhat malty, almost molasses with an orange presence. The flavor was malty, woody, sour orange, caramel, tobacco and something off. Medium length finish. Medium body. Very weird and not particularly good.

Sample at Malmö beer- and whiskey festival. Just a truly odd beer, with an equally odd taste-profile. Not the best combo of flavours.

The pour was orange red in color, clear, and formed a thin head a little less than one finger tall. The smell was typical of an East Coast IPA, in the earthy, herbal, soothing quality. The taste was where the chocolate first revealed itself, as there was a splash of cocoa across the tip of the tongue before the hops overcame if with spicy pungency. There wasn’t much orange peel flavor, except maybe a hint in the finish. This was certainly a good deal more complex than a run of the mill IPA. In fact I would on or to say that it was more a hoppy red ale, like the Terrapin Big Hoppy Monster, than it was an IPA. The feel of the body was thicker than most IPA’s, as there was a heft to it. I liked this experiment quite a bit.

Bottle: pours a dark brown with a nice foamy tan head. Aromas are not surprising... Chocolate... Citrus and oranges. This plays out nice on the flavors... Starts nice and mild with a thin body, but super malty and sweet... Immediately goes into a slightly bitter, citrus orange taste, which fades off to the chocolate. Very unique, I wish the body was a little heavier, but it’s still very nice. Different.

Dark amber pour with an off-white head. Aromas of orange peel and subtle chocolate. Flavor is malty upfront with some citrus hops coming through and the chocolate in the finish. Interesting beer, not super hoppy but you can still tell it’s an IPA. The chocolate and orange flavors add a nice complexity to it.
