COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Crisp and citrusy, this India Pale Ale derives its atypical dark copper brown color from malted chocolate wheat. Heavily hopped, the Chocolate Orange IPAís bitterness blends with the dark chocolate flavors of the cocoa nibs added during fermentation. Those subtle chocolate notes rest behind a floral bouquet, enhanced by additions of bitter orange peel and dry hopping with Citra.

Bottle. Ruby brown pour with a small khaki head. Very mild aroma with some citrus and yeast. Taste is similarly mild - comes across more as a hopped brown ale than an IPA. No chocolate notes at all. Bitter finish. Probably wouldnít bother again.

12 oz bottle. Pours an autumn brown with a small light tan head that leaves a bit of lacing. Aroma of dank citrus hops, chocolate, orange, and coffee. Taste is coffee and a bit of hops up front followed by orange, caramel and a big chocolate finish. Dry and slightly bitter. Medium body, creamy texture, slightly high carbonation. Overall an interesting and very delicious IPA! Itís nice to see that in an overly crowded IPA field, there are still interesting and new directions to go in. Excellent beer!

Pours a clear reddish amber body under a small fizzy beige head. The nose makes me think of a slightly hoppy Red Ale, toasty and slightly sweet smelling, lightly husky, minimal hops, and I donít really get anything suggestive of the name of this beer. The flavor does have a blast of chocolate orange up front, much like those chocolate orange candy things that used to be around where you smash it on the table and it segments out like orange slices. Not sure if Iíve really seen those in a long time. Other than the first blast of flavor, itís really just a below average hoppy red, overly husky and grainy with just a minimal bitterness. Light to medium bodied with fizzy carbonation and a lingering husky malt finish. Not sure why they called this an iPA, I would have guessed it was an Amber Ale. Meh, nothing to seek out

This beer has a darker pour, tan head. Aroma is light, sweet, not much there. The body is mild, medium mouthfeel with a strong malt flavor. I would not consider this an IPA but a malty strong ale. The balance is good. I didnít detect too much chocolate or orange.

Tap at the Thomas Creek Pub in the Greenville airport (which isnít on ratebeer, so I guess Iíd better add it) - surprised this is not.entered as a black ipa, considering it is dark brown and has a lot of black ipa.characteristics - a fair amount of roast and chocolate character - some medium.sweet toffee notes - the bitterness of the malt adds an acidity that works well with the.bitterness and.citric character of the hops used - some tobacco - the roast is a little much on the back end, but this is pretty solid.

12 oz purchased and consumed near the brewery. A: Clear, very dark ruby-brown-orange with a weak, bubbly head. Aroma: appealing and moderately complex. Hints of orange peel, orange liquor, brown bread and chocolate. Flavor: Moderately bitter. Chocolate malts and bitter hops dominate. A modicum of orange feighs sweetness for a moment before turning to bitter orange peel and blending with the hops. Lingering flavor of bitter chocolate, orange peel and faint hops. Enough orange to be easily detected but certainly not overdone. Feel: medium body and carbonation. O:A bitter-sweet Brown IPA with a touch of orange (peel) flavor.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured in a reddish, darker shade of brown with a nice off white head and lots of nice looking lacing all over the glass. Aroma of malts (some roast to it), citrus fruit and some hops. Taste is sweet, some chocolate and some citrus fruit, slightly hoppy. Very interesting beer, definitely enjoyable and drinkable.

UPDATED: APR 5, 2015 Good for an ipa. But the flavors were not as described. Orange was kind of there. Sort of the bitter of the rind. Chocolate flavor not there, But may have smoothed the beer out. Rating this based on what it is claiming to be. Tap

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of roasted and caramel, pine for the hops, light soap for the yeast, with chocolate, toffee, and orange in the background. Head is large, frothy turning rocky, beige with excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is clear dark burgandy. Flavor starts slightly sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily with a soft to lively carbonation. An odd IPA, but the added chocolate and orange stand out without being overpowering.
