FROTHINGSLOSH (3200) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 21, 2012
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured an intensely dark brown - almost black color with a medium sized foamy brown head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was tangy caramel, molasses, cherry and raisin. The flavor was tangy and sweetish with a strong molasses presence and notes of malt, caramel, raisin, cherry and touches of malted milk, cocoa and oak. The finish was long and tangy with lingering molasses and fruits. Fairly full bodied and smooth. Solid.

ABV of 7% according to the bottle. Pours dark brown with minimal head and light lacing. Aroma of toffee and a bit of dark fruit. Taste is similar with more caramel sweetness.

12 fl oz bottle at De Klomp, Linköping, on January 7, 2012
Deep red to black color, fluffy brown head. Sweet, griny, malty, alcohol scent. Sweet, mineral, malty, caramel, fudge, bitter taste. Grainy, dry, bitter aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, medium bitterness.

12oz split with Anndiesel. Deep opaque brown black. Frothy beige head. Coffee, dark chocolate aroma. Lots of brown sugar tones but mellow enough ABV to never be overwhelming. Not really true to style, but somehow captures the essence in it’s flavor profile. A pretty enjoyable beer, maybe closer to a straight up Dunkle Bock.

Bottle fron Appalachian Vintner. Pours dark brown with a thick khaki foam which rapidly disappears. Nice hazelnut notes on the nose. The tongue has notes of raisin, licorice, and straight up alcohol. Finishes clean. Solid example of style.

Pours black with tan head. Aroma is smoke, caramel and cereal. Taste is sweet with a creamy mouthfeel. The smokeyness adds a hint of tartness but that is quickly covered up with sweetness. Overall i found this to be a nice doppel, smooth and easy to drink.

Pours dark brown, almost black with small brownish head. The nose is dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, and some burnt notes. Taste is sweet, dark caramel malts, chocolate, and sharp roasted malt on the finish. Nothing special.

Pours a deep dark brown color that’s almost completely opaque with faint mahogany edges and a one finger off-white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Sporadic spots of lace left behind. Smokey dark malt aroma with hints of burnt toast, dark chocolate, ash and coffee bean. Some peppery spice but kind of one dimensional and not characteristic of the style. Medium bodied with a balance of sweet and smokey malts along with some zesty spice and bitter hops. Slightly acrid and dry with lots of deep roasted malt. Hints of burnt coffee bean, toast and dark chocolate along with some caramel, toffee and peppery spice. The ABV is well balanced but it’s a bit harsh and one dimensional. Could use some balance with more sweetness. Again, doesn’t really taste like a typical dopplebock.
