good aroma that smells of coffee and chocolate. The head is medium bodied, but doesn’t cling well. The color is a dark brown with tinges of red. It has a very pleasant nutty, chocolate, coffee combination which is only slightly bitter.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 2/3/2012. Pours fairly clear dark reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass; with moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, raisin, prune, toast, toffee, chocolate, molasses, floral, dark bread, light roast, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark malt notes with yeast fruitiness; with good strength. Taste of caramel, toast, dark bread, raisin, prune, toffee, molasses, chocolate, roast, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, chocolate, molasses, dark bread, raisin, prune, roast, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of dark and roasted malt flavors with a light-moderate fruitiness; with nice robustness and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with no warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good doppelbock! Nice balance, robustness, and complexity of dark malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Very black in color with a slightly smokey and yet subtly sweet taste to it. A beer I would definitely have again.

ROGUE (2145) - Newark, Delaware, USA - JUN 7, 2013
12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown color with an off white head that is very frothy and dissipates to a thin film that laces nicely down the glass. Aroma mostly of sweet dark chocolate and some underlying earthy hops. Has an big chocolate taste that is overly sweet. Not very enjoyable. The mouthfeel is thick with moderate carbonation. The flavor does not follow through with the great setup from the appearance and aroma.

12oz Bottle. Thanks for sharing, Rob! Low nut and toasted cocoa aroma. Frothy and fresh. Heavy on the melanoidin dark, toasted malts. A little glassy and crystalline and not quite as smooth, silky, and creamy as I would hope for the style, but still decent and clean with quality lagering.

Bottle at Bishop’s Arms, Stockholm, Vasagatan
Dark brown color, clean, with some amber-red reflex, and medium sized beige compact head. The aroma is quite American, the yeast produced more fruity esters than a true German Bock; there is also some caramel and light roasted malt. The mouthfeel is lean, dry, partially smooth; roasted malt and dark caramel flavor, with a trace of liquorice.
A good beer, nothing to do with Doppelbocks (lighter, with a bit too much roasted malt, and the liquorice).
