3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A: Malty. creamy. Some sweet roasted notes.
A: Looks ok. Color is a thin brown. Head retention is alright, looks creamy.
T: Like every Thomas Creek beer: very malty. Subtle hints of roastiness. A nice sweetness. Decently balanced but the malt really takes over. I guess for a lager it’s pretty balanced. Drinks more like a bock than a dopplebock.
P: Lighter on the palate. Smooth and creamy but malt and carbonation cuts through a little bit too much.
Overall, this tasted like a thomas creek beer: super malty. There are hints of roastiness but it doesn’t bring anything special. A good beer, but nothing great.

Bottle @ GSP Hilton. Aroma is a little sweet, chocolate. Color is very dark brown, maybe a little too dark for style? Light malty sweetness, touch of chocolate in flavor. Medium bodied. Would expect a little fuller body for a dopple. Overall, a good beer but a little light for a dopple.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from bottle. Surprising aroma of cocoa, molasses, licorice and lager gas. Looks like a porter. Tasting cocoa, caramel, burnt malt, licorice, honey, molasses, grass. Heavy feel toward the end. Otherwise, good stuff.

12oz bottle, purchased 2/23/15 from Habersham in Savannah. Bottle labeled 7%. Pours with a super-fucking huge brown head. Fills up my pint glass. Awesome. Bad bottle? Yeah, infected. Not super super infected, but you can taste the brett creeping in and it ruins the beer. That spicy citrusy distinct brett smell is evident in the nose, and the beer tastes moderately sour, which is pretty awful with the doppelbock style (at least here). Moderate bitter, light sweet. Hard to do more than take a sip of this. Medium-plus body. Slick texture. Strong carbonation and biting texture, with an excessively dry finish. Once I get past the sour bite, there’s a decent bit of nuttiness and chocolate, seeing some of the coffee. Seems like this would be a pretty decent doppelbock if it was a decent bottle. Impossible to drink as it is, though. It’s been a while since I dumped a bottle so quickly. No date on the bottle, of course...

Appearance: Black color with a fine tan head that gives a lovely lacing on the glass.
Aroma: Very fruity and chocolate.
Palate: Medium + body. Balanced sweetness and an ok bitterness. Average to soft carbonation.
Taste: Balanced chocolate, coffee and a bit to heavy fruity.
Overall impression: A bit to much fruity, otherwise ok.
Personal stats: Bottle from a trade with tony_gorilla.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
An interesting chocolate-accented doppelbock, a well-done domestic example of the style, candy-apple maltiness with alcohol tang. Plum, dark chocolate, brown sugar, bourbon oaky flavors. Intriguing, distinctive, and enjoyable overall. Could contend with it's German precedents. Pours dark ruby almost black, off-white head, sugary malty aroma. Will be enjoying more of this brew in the future. Texture is just a bit too light, but all the more drinkable. A good introduction to Thomas Creek brewing.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Undated 12 oz bottle served in a snifter.
Pours a dark reddish-brown; clear but nearly opague. Has a short-lived and rather small tan head but leaves some lacing.
Aroma: sweet and attractive smell of roasted malts; faintly spicy
Taste: slightly spicy and hoppy flavor, but dominated by sweet, medium and darker roasted malts. Slightly nutty. Good hop/malt balance.
M: good medium carbonation level; slightly dry in the finish.
O: pretty good example of an American dopplebock..

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Mörkt brun öl med ett lättare beige skum. Doften är ordentligt söt med malt och karamell. I smaken tillkommer även vissa rostade noter, choklad och lite rostade nötter.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: MAR 27, 2014 Upon a second try (sober try) not as good. Original rating was a 4.2
Good solid, dark, malty beer. Strong chocolate flavor, not overpowering. Pours a very dark color with a hint of crimson. This beer doesn’t do anything extraordinary, but that is what makes it such a great beer.
