Bottle on the cheap from A Southern Season. Attractively poured into a Rare Vos glass... nearly black with light showing near the top and a yellowish-beige generous head with nice lacing. Nose is hoppy at first,ut also a bit chocolately-roasty, though with a good deal of plastic which doesn’t work out so well. Tastes better, with more of the hops and sweet chocolate coming through. Not bad, but not a stellar beer by any stretch.

12oz bottle from total wine in greenville. pours a dark brown with a solid, one-finger, tan head and nice lacing. aroma is nice but slightly green for a porter with notes of earthy, piney hops, bitter chocolate, roasted malts, toffee, and hints of coffee. flavor is quite good with bittersweet dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, and slight charred wood notes with hints of raisins, toasted nuts, and earthy hops on the finish. palate is medium bodied with lively carbonation and a lingering, roasted malt finish. overall, a solid porter.

12 oz bottle pours a dark brown black color with a creamy thin tan head. Roasted malts touch of sweetness and a slight phenol note. Burnt and earthy malts that are really charred leaving a bitter burnt wood flavor. Thin body light carbonation. A little heavy handed on the roasted malts, but not bad.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle. Appearance: Deep cola color with a small, foamy, tan head. The lively head quickly subsides. Aroma: Roasted malt, a touch of raisin and earth, coffee, and some caramel. Definitely on the robust side, but very nice. Flavor: Roasted malt sweetness, but not as bitter as the nose makes you think it would be. A touch of earth and wood. There is also a pleasing, slightly smokey back bitterness. Slight nut and raisin notes too. Fairly complex and quite enjoyable. Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium-rich, smooth mouthfeel (oatmeal in the grain bill?) and a medium-long, roasty finish. Overall: A very tasty porter indeed and worth giving a try.

Dark opaque brown, thin smooth tan head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate. Taste is coffee, chocolate, bitter, smooth body.

On tap at Union Jacks. Black-ruby. Small, creamy head. Mild, sweet coffee aroma. Flavor: Coffee. Mild bitter finish. While it shows a hint of chocolate, coffee dominates.

From the Jug at the GABF Colorado Convention Center, Denver 11/10/2008 Some burnt roast aroma. Small beige head. Black and smooth on the palate with a slightly bitter coffee roast finish.
