Our flagship beer, this is a medium-bodied, extremely smooth Irish style red ale with an evenly roasted malt character throughout.

Rated from notes taken 6 Aug 2011 -- I really think this is a very nice red ale. Great flavor with just a hint of roastiness.

Bottle. Pours amber with an off white head. Light toasted malts, hints of earthy sweetness, mild floral hops, and a quick clean finish. Not bad.

(bottle) Drank with my Irish buddy, Con, during the World Cup, who agreed this was well done. Clear copper complexion with this head. Very smooth and sessionable with mildly roasted malt and authentic pub flavor.

Middle of the road. Aroma is toasty and grainy. Flavor is malt-forward. Very smooth with an amber lager-like taste. Light bodied. Not bad but not great either.

Sample at Malmö beer- and whiskey festival. Dominated by caramel, but there’s just something odd about the beer i didn’t like and couldn’t put my finger on. Maybe the bottle was slightly old, didn’t have an opportunity to check.

Golden color out of the bottle with a foamy white head. Grainy nose. Some caramel sweetness, grainy malts and some dark toast. OK for a red.

From a bottle poured an amber color with a good amount of head. Malty hoppy flavor with a quick fiinish.

I really wish I could give this beer higher marks. I have tremendous respect for Thomas Creek and the work they do. Sadly, their flagship isn’t as good as some of their other beers. It’s hard to say that considering how perfect the technical factors are. The red color, tight head, carbonation, mouthfeel, and lacing are all faultless. Unfortunately, the flavor and aroma are on the weak side. River Falls does too many things right to write it off, but don’t expect to be amazed.
