COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
HOP MEADOW INDIA PALE ALE. The American cousin of our ESB. This pale ale was originally brewed in 19th century England to survive the long ocean voyages to their troops stationed in India - hence the name India Pale Ale. To keep the beer from spoiling during these four- to six-month odysseys, they produced a stronger, more generously hopped ale. Our creamy IPA emphasizes traditional West Coast Chinook and Cascade hops to yield a hophead’s delight of a brew: just-right complexity that’s not too sweet - or over-the-top with hops.

Beautiful semi-hazy safire amber in color with a skittish, oily and bubbly head. Aroma is somewhat subdued, with traits of corn husks, last month’s wheat harvest, creamy oranges and a little puce coming out. Flavor builds on the aroma, leading to creamy oranges, some honeydew and a blast of hop pellets. Bitterness is accentuated by papaya and orange rind scrapings. Bitter, creamy and vibrant. We’ve got some malt support but something here indicates that there’s not a malt combination that could pacify this hop profile. An enjoyable, lively IPA with a trademark bitter finish. Thanks again for the Hooker, tpkenned!

I just found my notes on this one. Sweet, here goes. I had this in May 2013 and this was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a hazy golden amber color with a nice two finger-ed head with a nice foamy fairly thick lacing. The smell had a floral, citrus and herbal earthy bitter hoppiness. The taste took all of these previously mentioned aromas and combined them into the flavoring and it sat fairly earthy altogether with an invading earthy bitter aftertaste that ends up leaving a dry finish. On the palate, it sits about a medium on the body with a decent sessionable quality to it. The carbonation is fairly mediocre as there’s nothing harsh nor is there anything that causes me to think that its a bad beer at all. Overall, I say this is a good English IPA worthy of coming back to if I’m ever able to have it again.

20 oz. draft at The Corner Pug in West Hartford, CT. Golden amber, filtered, nice white head and good lacing. Malty and hoppy to the nose, some west coast hops with pine and citrus. Taste is similar, perfect amount of bittering hops. Citrus and piney hops really come through. Solid IPA from my hometown of Bloomfield, CT.!!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
