COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Thomas Hooker Imperial Porter is a full-bodied dark lager which draws its roots to the stronger porters of 19th Century England which would evolve into today’s stronger stouts. The porter derives tremendous complexity from the use of 8 different malts blended to balance sweet, caramel flavor with the coffeeish taste supplied by a judicious use of dark roasted malts. This brew is generously hopped with German and American hops that come to life as the beer is allowed to warm to its ideal temperature of 58-60 degrees. A great brew to add that holiday warmth and cheer to any beer lover’s winter. CHEERS.

Excellent porter if I do say so myself. Right away you get a raisin/molasses taste up front. Solid body. And a light smokey end. Lots of charecter.

12 oz. bottle. Pour is nearly black with a khaki head that has decent retention. Aroma is big notes of dark chocolate and spice, with coffee, and roasted nuts. A bit of booze. Flavor is similar, some licorice notes, slightly boozy, a good balance of chocolate, coffee and hops. Not much lacing but they did amp up the ABV to 8.5%. Damn good beer from Bloomfield, CT!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark black with thick light brown head. Has a rich aroma of chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Taste is a nice mix of chocolate, coffee, malt, and spices and finishes with a alight pomegranate/dark fruit aftertaste.

UPDATED: APR 22, 2014 12 oz undated bottle pours a murky, dark brown body with a small beige head. Head quickly reduces; there’s a lasting ring and small bits of lace on the glass. Some sediment in the bottom of the bottle (added). Smell: Roasted malt with dark fruit, including prunes, and hints of roasted nuts. Some notes of baked bread and earthy hops. Alcohol appears upon warming. Taste: Bold taste (and higher ABV) lives up to the "Imperial Porter" labeling. Too boozy, with the higher ABV not hidden at all. Rich flavor of roasted malts with notes of cocoa and dark fruits, yet not with much sweetness. Earthy and lightly spicy hops are present, as well as some coffee taste. Roasty, fruity and mildly bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Has a very slight bite. Overall: a strong Imperial Porter with an aroma that is better than the flavor.(from Dec. 2011 notes)

Bottle at home in Salisbury, CT - don’t remember where I got this. I think it must be at least a year old. Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head. The aroma has aged fruits, chocolate, some wood, sherry, grapes, currants. Medium to big sweet flavor with a bit of roast, subtle bitter char, sugary chocolate, dried dark fruits, faintly tangy berries. Medium to full. Odidd with average carbonation. Sweet finish, somewhat sticky, with more lightly bitter charred malts, sugary chocolate, dark fruits, touches of molasses, mellow alcohol kick. Interesting stuff.
