3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
December 11th, 2013 - Thorn St.’s Agave Ale was an attractive option as I looked up upon Coin-Op’s menu. I’d practically been drinking agave syrup over the last few weeks, decorating my yogurt with it to make a palatable dessert. And as soon as the beer was poured I began to see some similarities, especially in color, though not in clarity. The aroma is lightly hopped, with some of those sweet caramel notes, and, alas, no real agave, though I suppose the scent might be sweeter than one would expect otherwise. The body is medium in weight, and quickly rushes the tongue with toasted grains and cinnamon, with a slightly sweeter aftertaste. The palate comes across as a bit flat, given all the zesty sweet-spice, but the hops is nonetheless pronounced and active. Again, no agave here, but more than that, this brew falls a little flat, both in the mouthfeel and the overall experience.
