We all know that drinking beer is a congenital pastime and brewing beer can be just as fraternal. This collaboration between Rob Lovatt of Thornbridge and Jessica Heidrich St. Eriks is testament to the friendship and inspiration that brewing can produce. This Imperial Raspberry Stout pours rich and dark with aromas and tastes of liquorice and chocolate, complimented by the generous infusion of prime Scottish raspberries. Hops: Bramling Cross. Review based on the BJCP2008 (style 13F, adapted). Bottle 50 cl - Batch unknown. AROMA: initial predominant raspberry aroma with a background of sweet coffee, cocoa and a slight note of black liquorice. no hop aromas. APPEARANCE: dark brown color and opaque. medium brown head with average retention. TASTE: mild sweet raspberry flavour dominates with a background of roasted notes (coffee and dark chocolate). medium-low bitterness with a roasty finish and aftertaste. PALATE: medium-full to full body with a velvety texture. slight and smooth alcohol warmth. OVERALL: a nice combination of an imperial stout and raspberries which dominate the aroma and taste giving the impression that its a bit unbalanced.

Got to try the beer that lies at the basis, because the mouthfeel, aroma and look of this beer is fantastic. Never had this much of a raspberry flavor in a beer also. It is definitely not bad, adds a fruity and sweet sourness, but it dominates just a little too much. Nonetheless a very interesting and tasty beer!

On bottle at Sandar Bryghus. Very dark, slightly ruby color- some foam. High aroma intensity; raspberry- some malt and light chocolate in the finish. Medium/ full body & complexity. Very enjoyable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a black beer with a big beige head. Smells of fresh raspberry, some vanilla, some coffee. Tastes sour and bitter. Leaves a gentle sour bitter palate with the raspberry coming trough. Bit tangy in the aftertaste. This beer is well balanced. Really cool and interesting. I love it!

500ml bottle. Jet black colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige to tan head. Full-blown raspberry aroma, fruity, sweet-ish and tart-ish, minimally herbal "shrubby"; largely disguised dark malty background is minimally roasty, hints of chocolate and liquorice. Taste is raspberry-dominated tart-sweet-fruity-herbal-bitter, underlying liquorice and chocolate; cautious hints of warming alcohol reveal the oesophagus’ whereabouts. Very drinkable, illusory light. Excellent transfer of broad raspberry flavours into aroma and taste without a single hint of artificiality. And obviously with low-key though strength-welded, well matching, chocolate framework. Well done composition.

8.8.2014. Almost black in colour, thick brown head. Aroma is mostly raspberry, sth roasted trying to get from behind. Palate is medium bodied, lowish carbonation. Taste is interesting, and not only in good way. Raspberry, sth roasted and very sour aftertaste. This is not sweet. Raspberry dominates too much in everything. Disappointment.

(500ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Mar 6 2015) Pours black with a small bubbly pale tan head. Aroma is completely driven by tart fresh raspberries, a little dark malt but not much room for anything else. On the palate, sweet/tart raspberry jam is the dominant flavour, some elements of light roast coffee and faint chocolate in there as support, maybe a touch of cream. Towards the finish it becomes much more tart and raspberry takes over completely, like juice. Finish a bit bitter and a bit sour. Light mouthfeel with average carb for style, no alcohol detectable. Much more completely raspberry than expected, almost tough to tell it’s a stout and not a fruity saison or something blind. It’s actually pretty tasty when you get over that, though I think if you’re making a raspberry stout it should have more of the latter.

Flaska från SB. Svart med brunbeige skum. Kraftig doft av hallon och lite choklad. Syrliga hallon och kaffe i smaken med lång besk eftersmak.

Bottle 50cl. Black with a very small brown head. Funny about this one is the cassis/raspberry aroma with coffee in the background. Flavour of obvious raspberries. The stout basic beer is fantastic, but I’ve never understood the necessity of adding fruit to it. What a pitty!!!

50cl bottle. Pitch black with moderate brown head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate and some raspberries. Taste is the same; chocolate coffee, roasted malts and then raspberry grout with some sourness. It comes nicely together. Finish is dry with some fruity and roasted notes. Medium to thick mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Nice Stout.
