COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
During 2007, an alliance based on friendship and love of great beer between Thornbridge’s Head Brewer Stefano Cossi and Brooklyn Brewery’s Garrett Oliver led to the brewing of this refined strong ale which has been matured for over 18 months before being bottled. The collection includes the unoaked Alliance Strong Ale and two finished exclusively in fortified wine casks: Spanish oak Pedro Ximenez Sherry (PX) and American oak Madeira. We hope you enjoy this unique tasting experience.

Bottle that I picked up at Stirchley Wines, B’ham, Apr 09 shared with dad 16-05-09 Pours deep reddy amber, again this maybe moving towards copper in colour with off white head, in the Loz inspired ’Batcave’ type light of our living room this beer looks richer in colour than the other two, in fact when I looked again in the kitchen this looked quite stunning in the glass. Aroma is warming boozey soaked oakiness, a little nutty and rich dark sugary with the alcohol leaping off in wafts. The sherry is very much present in this but being no expert in the world of sherry I would be hard pressed to know whether it was a brown bag quality Tudor Rose or Emva Cream or a truly quality effort which I’m sure that it is, whatever It is I like it. The oaky vanilla creaminess detected in the Madeira aged version is also here, its warming, richer, softer and another little step up from the Madeira. I wish I had another one of these to age but I could only get duplicates of the two other versions. A7 A5 F8 P4 Ov15 3.9

Bottled. Amber coloured. Unclear. Light brown head. Herbs, flowers, sherry and alcohol notable in the aroma. Flavour has oak, sherry, sweetness, alcohol and light grass notable all very nicely blended into a balanced and delicious experience. Medium to full bodied. Sweetish and alcoholwarming end. Nice one.

Bottle shared by cgarvieuk at the pre-DLD gathering, thanks! Translucent beer that one moment appears crimson red and the next sunset bronze, small but lasting head and good lace. The aroma is quite odd, rich sweet and peaty malts, but there is also a tomato and green pepper vapours that is hard to place. Notes of Cask Aged Sherry all around the nose. The taste starts sweet and fruity before a astringent and coarsely bitter note comes following. It actually seems to work with the overall earthy and woody overtones nicely. Light spicy finish added to my enjoyment. The mouth feel is rich and aggressive but a tad flat. Overall this unique offering met my expectations and would be one I would try again if ever given the chance.
