Keg in Tapped, Leeds. Pours pretty dark with a tan head. Plenty of chocolatey mint flavour. Like a liquid after eight. A good pudding beer.

Cask @ Sheffield Tap. Pours pitch black with beige head. Smooth mint chocolate ice cream, well-blended and not too dominant, alongside roasted malts and dark chocolate shavings. Very nice indeed. Wish I had a slice of Vienetta to go with this!

Cask at DaDa. It pours darkest brown (nr black) with a medium beige head. The nose is chocolate, mint, mint matchmakers and light roast. The taste is bitter-sweet, mint choc chip ice-cream, After Eight mints, roasted malt, cocoa, earth and faint liquorice with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Rather tasty! The balance is spot on, very well balanced indeed (i.e. not too sweet).

On cask at Coach and Horses, Dronfield - A bit different, deep rich black body, with thick white head. Nose is straight away mint choc chip ice-cream, the taste is similar, a bit like a powdery After Eight mint... in a glass. The mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side, but even so, it was excellent. Wouldn’t do more than one though.

What a rare brew. Black as The Night with a small beige head. We called it the Villa beer. After Eight! It was more or less like floating after eight chocolate. Nice if you like that. Otherwise….do not buy!

Cask conditioned handpump Craft Beer Co N1 London 04/03/13. A black beer with a beige head. Chocolate and peppery mint in the nose. Nice bitter chocolate in the mouth. Good roasty flavours. Mint is only a tempter. I was reticent about this worried that the mint would be overpowering or wouldn’t work but actually it balances nicely. Having said that it is only just hinted at. Lovely.

[cask at Craft N1] Black pour, thin white head. On the nose, huge amounts of thick, sweet chocolate – smells like an Easter egg. On the taste, more of that sweet, syrupy Easter egg choc, plus a touch of mocha, then mint that rises towards the end. Touch of the Vienetta’s – it’s mostly roasty and chocolatey. Faint minty background, sweet chocolate finish. Tastes very similar to Ayr Brewing Co’s Dr Blacklock that I *cough* had a hand in making. Chocolate syrup and peppermint oil went in that one – this one tastes as if something similar could have been used. Good beer though – but like the original Blacklock, gets a bit much after a while [06032013]

Craft Islington. Cask. Opaque dark brown beer, small bubbly tan head. Light palate, smooth with fine carbonation. Lovely nose of After Eight mint chocolates. Nice light chocolate with well judges and well integrated mint. Finishes smooth and minty! My favourite of the Thornbridge beers showcased tonight. Could easily have been a mess but it’s light, tasty and very very drinkable.

Cask at Craft Beer Islington, 06/03/13. Mid black with a frothy tan head that retains well. Nose is mint choc chip ice cream, vanilla, dark malts, touch of wood, dark chocolate behind the mint. Taste comprises roast malt, dark chocolate, mint, slight lactic notes. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth and massaging on the palate, dryish finish. Cracking stuff!

Cask @ CBC Islington. The pour’s deep brown with a tiny head. The nose is pretty much exactly like a juinor mint candy or a york peppermint patty. Loads of mint and chocolate syrup goodness. Sweet, nostalgic aromas. The taste is much the same. Nice, rich chocolate with a strong mint finish. Oily body, but slightly thin. Overall, a really nice beer. Apparently mint stouts can work!
