Pours a deep brown in colour with a tan head. The smokiness of the peated malts is matched by a smooth taste of toffee, caramel and dark fruits.

Biggish beige head. Opaque body shows deep dark red body at edges. Lightly smoky roasty aroma with juniper notes. Dryish smoky licorice taste with juniper and chocolate notes. Mid-bodied. Sharpish mouthfeel. Dryish smoky mineraly juniper aftertaste with salty notes. It’s good, but a bit lacking in depth. (0.5l bottle, from wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo.)

Bottle. A dark brown to black beer, topped by a finger thick beige head. The aroma is mostly on the roasted side, but there’s a nice whiff of smoke as well. Coffee, some dark chocolates and a touch of citrus peel. Roasted, lightly smoked flavor with coffee and a touch of milk chocolate. A nice bitterness chimes in, mostly of the hoppy kind, and there’s also a little touch of citrus peel. Lasting finish with some bonfire in addition to the flavors found initially. Tasteful and easy drinkable this one, nice. 140503

I know this brewer as being excellent, especially in mid abv ales with refined yet expressive tastes. While I just had a poorer experience, this was another winner. Lovely soft smoke aroma, quite brown malty rather than tea or hard smoke like. Very finely balanced. Taste is even better, with balancing bitterness to challenge, or rather excite, your taste buds. Lasting too. Delicious! (50cl bottle from Saveur Bière)

37th birthday beer no 14. We’ll I was going to call it night after the Westy 12 but it got me in the mood for more beer. Bottle from Cotteridge wines. Black beer with large tan head and minimal lacing. Aroma of chocolate drops, coffee and roasted malts. The taste follows the aroma with more charcoal and some smoke in it not enough smoke to be called a smoked beer though. Very nice.

Bottle from greystones, Sheffield. Weak smoky aroma. Entirely opaque, black colour, with a thin creamy head. Really delicious smoky flavour. Heavily carbonated, spoils the palate slightly.
